Discourse on Yoga Vasishtha

Om Santissantissantihi

Yesterday we learned some details about the different and strange galaxies visited by Leela Devi and Saraswati. Hiranyagarbha’s creation is strange. He merges in Paramatma at the end of the Kalpa. The new Brahma may do his own Creation anew or follow a pattern of Creation followed by a previous Brahma.

Sloka

The four-faced Brahma will be the one who has led a perfect Vedic life before and he by his desire, when qualified, ascends to the position of the new Brahma. We already have learned about past tendencies and the process of Creation. There is no particular rule to follow in the process of Creation. This creation may not always follow a strict pattern. It may at times be random as per the will of the Creator in charge. Bad audio 8-13 min. When all ingredients are placed before a chef, each different chef may prepare a different item and follow a different recipe.

Some planets are habited by only animals, some have only vegetation. Some have only rocks and no living beings. Some only have human habitation. Some have gods living on them.

Sloka

Some are filled with darkness and there are beings which can see in the dark.
Some are filled with light.

Sloka

Sage Vasishtha says there are countless galaxies. ‘Anekakoti Brahmanda jananee’ is a name for Mother Goddess. No one can count the number of universes, not even great yogis like me. All of them exist in void. Parabrahma is ashoonya in His nature. He is ever full. Vishnu and other gods, even if all their lives are spent on it to travel towards Him, they cannot find his scope or dimension. Vishnu and Brahma tried to measure the height of Siva. With a physical form one cannot perceive or fathom Paramatma. Pragacchatbhih – The ever-changing universe. As long as we are in the mortal body, we cannot see Paramatma. While in a body, you must try to attain spiritual knowledge. The knowledge of Paramatma may only be attained when one transcends the body. The story in Siva Purana describes how the swan lied and fell from grace, and how the boar dug into the ground and won praise for His sincere effort. Vishnu took the form of a boar. Brahma took the form of a swan. Once man attains the ability to analyze, he must understand that with the physical body one cannot see Paramatma.

Sloka

In the Siva Purana, Siva spoke after Vishnu as Varaha Swami acknowledged that he could not fathom the beginning of the pillar of light.

Sloka

Like gems embedded in a bracelet, all the planets and solar systems are balanced without falling off. A magnetic attraction holds everything together. All the oceans of galaxies are remaining in their place because of this. The five elements are existing because of the power of such attraction.

Sloka

O great intellect, O Rama, you understand this topic. It is impossible to fully describe all the galaxies. This topic is never ending. Another great work can be composed and yet, it will not cover everything. All the galaxies which the two ladies were seeing, vanished in an instant. I cannot give any further description to you. I have told you everything I know. This Creation is extremely vast and unending. It is infinite. This is all held as a minute particle in Paramatma’s infinite dimension. But even this statement is false. It implies that Paramatma has a tangible form, whereas, He does not. This is mentioned only to give an idea to beginners. Those who have attained the highest state are not concerned about this illusory creation or its vast extent.

Sloka

If more universes are there in your mental imagination, as illusion, they certainly may exist. They cannot all be covered here.

Like wildly dancing demi-gods, who become invisible to one another, these galaxies are also infinite and they are all existing because of ignorance. It is only time-pass to keep analyzing and discussing about these illusory topics. Time never stops. Whether you keep busy or remain lazy, Time will not stop. It is important to utilize time properly. People simply chitchat when no pressing work is there. When an urgent task is at hand, one returns to work. What is the use of listing all the illusory galaxies? What purpose does it serve? To spend time to discover the reason why these delusions occur, is a good way of spending your time.

Whoever believes that this Creation really exists are all ignorance-filled Brahmas. These galaxies will all vanish the moment your ignorance vanishes. Even to think that Vishnu and Siva have done this or that is also an illusion. This is what Sage Vasishtha tells Rama.

31st sarga.

The description of the ladies viewing a battle is given here.

Sloka

Leela Devi and Saraswati suddenly saw the private quarters in a palace. Leela Devi wished to see the people there. Saraswati told her that whatever Leela Devi would will, will happen, since now she is a Jnani. Suddenly her wish came true and they found themselves in the queen’s quarters. Leela Devi discovered that she was in Samadhi.

All the people there were sleepless. They were in sorrow. Incense was burning. Leela Devi desired to see the dead husband of another lifetime. Whatever she wishes to see she is able to see. The same man as a corpse is kept in flowers during one lifetime. Another lifetime occurred in which Padmaraja was her husband. She now wanted to know how and where he was reborn after his death. The body of Padmaraja is itself a Brahmanda. The corpse is lying there. But his mental body has already assumed another body and has spent many lifetimes already.

Sloka

Leela Devi has now penetrated into the mental world of Padmaraja. All the different lifetimes that she is witnessing are all happening as per her resolve.

Sloka

This mental arena is very vast. She now saw her husband. The place was muddy and wet. Like a lion entering a cave, the two ladies entered into that world in their astral bodies (spatial bodies), They entered the imaginary world of Padmaraja

Sloka

They entered Jambu Dvipa and saw the land filled with mountains and forests. Now the husband’s name is Viduratha. Once again Leela Devi is his wife. He is grown and is now in the battlefield. There the corpse is lying there as Vasishtha, whom Leela Devi had recently seen, and then she saw Padmaraja. In this duration, 800 lifetimes have passed. One cannot comprehend the speed at which Time flies during the astral body’s existence and its travels. How can the oxen move at a different speed from the carriage they pull? It is possible due to Maya. The speed of the chariot and that of the horses that pull it, are different. Now many lifetimes have passed for Leela Devi and yet, the corpses of her dead husbands are still there, awaiting the funeral rites. The hero and the heroine are still there, as the same souls.

Sloka

The two ladies went to the battlefield. Sindhu raja was the enemy king attempting to usurp Viduratha from his throne. The people in the battlefield cannot see the ladies. Where is all this happening? In the minds of who? Padmaraja? Leela Devi? Vasishtha, the brahmin who passed away? It is all an illusion. It is not really happening. So we cannot say.

Sloka

Last verse. It describes the battlefield and what the ladies saw there.

Sun turned into the moon.

Shoora is mentioned. Now Shoora is defined. He is one who fights for Dharma, following a Dharmic process. One who is not Dharmic will not gain salvation or spiritual knowledge. Veera Shoora is the true and valiant warrior. Rama will be a warrior in the future and he will fight a war of Dharma, for Dharma. That is why he is now given a description of a true and noble warrior. We will continue to learn about the description of the battlefield tomorrow.

Today is Dwadasi in Jyestha month. It is very auspicious for performing abhishekam to Lord Sri Datta Venkateswara. We will now proceed there.
