Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji on Puttu Gam’s second birthday, the last Sunday of February – February 26, 2012 – Mysore
Jaya Guru Datta
(A commemorative video of Sri Swamiji showering immense love towards different living beings on our planet Earth was shown). “We were all insects, animals, and birds before we became human beings. We have a faint remembrance of our past lives somewhere deep within. The smell attracts us to them. Sometimes the other creatures appear to be better than humans. We should not go back to history. We should always be striving to evolve higher. Animals balance themselves on four legs. Their faces look down. Man looks up. That is a big difference.
The powerful gravitational force of the earth always pulls us down. Karma is very powerful. It brings us down. We feel happy to be brought down. It takes much less time and also it is very easy to jump down rather than to climb up. It takes one second to jump down but it takes several hours to climb up. Climbing is very difficult. The Sadguru introduces us to different kinds of sadhana. Be happy. It is a long process for the waters of the ocean to go up by the heat of the Sun. But the water is attracted by the earth and comes down again (as rain or snow). Swamiji likes the birds because they fly up high. To fly you need the help of Air. You need good wings. We should try to be like birds and fly up higher. When you go higher and sit on the 25th or 30th floor of a building, or in the Himalayas, the joy that you experience is much nicer than the joy that you experience sitting inside an underground cave. That we should rise higher is the Sankalpa of the Paramatma (the wish of God).
We should rise up to higher knowledge through Yoga. Always think higher thoughts with help from good Satsang (noble company). Do not go down. Do not go back to yesterday. Forget what happened yesterday. When you keep thinking about the different confusions and different sins of the past, it is very easy to come down again, to drop down to a lower level. Go slowly. No one becomes a Jnani (an enlightened soul) overnight. We have to develop good, strong wings. We must not drop down like a bird with broken wings. We must proceed step by step and proceed slowly. Haste is waste.
Happy Birthday to Puttu Gam!
Puttu is Sri Jayalakshmi Mata. Gam is Ganapathy. Don’t feel that it is not our concern. The dattapeetham.com website and Datta Peetham facebook page give information. Puttu Gam gives valuable advice in English, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Gujarati, and Malayalam. Puttu Gam is not a joke. You must treat Puttu Gam seriously.
Now we jump from Shatashloki Ramayana to Bhaktimala. We are putting Bhaktimala (monthly spiritual magazine) online. It can be accessed through the Internet, even on IPhone. It is almost ready. It will be fully ready by the 70th Birthday Celebrations. For those who have online facility, the new issue will be available the same day. To receive the paper copy via the mail system may take 20 days. Only for Life Members, Donors, Patrons, and Chief Patrons, the User ID and Password will be given. The Bhaktimala website is like a reference library.
All those who have joined Puttu Gam must now join Bhaktimala. We need more people to join as Life Members, Donors, Patrons, and Chief Patrons.
I am the editor, and the chief editor. Bala Swamiji is helping me. Three times, if you forget your password it will be given again. The fourth time, you have to take fresh membership. In spiritual life we have to be strict. We should get rid of ahankara (ego).”
