Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji in Nada raga yoga saagara therapy session – July 1, 2012 – Mysore
Music is my language
Music is my Religion
Music is my Expression
Music is a powerful source for Healing and Meditation.
Since childhood, I have been fascinated by music.
My mother, Jaya Lakshmi Mata wrote Bhajans on Krishna and sung them. It was wonderful to hear her sing and the love for Music started at such young age for me. When I WAS ONE AND A HALF YEARS OLD, Mata Jayalakshmi used to play the veena and put my tender fingers on different strings to make me get the feel of it. At that time perhaps I didn’t understand it but it has left an indelible impact on me. By the time I was 11 when my mother passed away, I had already handled the flute and the harmonium. My mother also used to tell me about her ancestor Venkatamakhi and his contribution to Mela Kartha Raga system, and perhaps that is the reason that music has taken such strong roots in me. I used to watch her playing music to the plants, to the cows and to other animal. She always said that these are ways of keeping them in harmony: little did I know that I had to use this on my devotees at a later date. Mata Jayalakshmi grew up among the tribal in the forests of Mekedaatu, who had developed their own ways of healing. In olden days they would make the patient lie down and apply balms and lotions on him, and with the sound of drums, and instruments made of reeds like the flute, treat him so that the bodily elements would be brought to a balanced level and the medicinal potions would have an effect on him. Even to this day in the islands’ of Bali and parts of Thailand they use gongs and other instruments like a xylophone known as Rindak in Bali. It is similar to the Jalataranga in Indian musical instruments. These produced various sound at different decibels which bring out the nada or sound and deeply penetrate the tissues and awakenthem, and keep the body fluids balanced. Healing then becomes more effective whether itis through medicine or herbs.
Thus using music, crystals, herbs, astrology and water, a concept called “Raga Ragini Vidya” has been developed by your Swamiji. The musical healing you are undergoing today is the same as what my mother taught me. Swamiji is giving to you in a highly refined and sophisticated format using the latest technology whether it is in the sound manifestation through the earphones, or the ergonomically designed chairs for your complete relaxation. Compare this to olden days when they would take the patient to a forest and keep drumming crude instruments to awaken his nadi chakras!!
Today the music or nadam you are listening to is entitled as Rashi music, which will have effect on all 12 parts of your body. The six chakras are divided intotwelve parts, thus penetrating your inner body physiologically and more importantly psychologically. These sounds and notes entwined with melodious music will be able to even supress your ego if you are able absorb thee total effects of it. For this you must have complete Ekagrata, total belief in the system and undertake at least a minimum of 12 sessions. It is not necessary that you should take it only when Swamiji is there. Yes in the Sadguru’s presence and with His touch your experience would be richer and total, and will be very effective in healing you.
I must stress here that listening to music is not a therapy on its own. It should be used along with the normal medicines given by doctors. Don’t ever stop taking medicines given by doctors. Music is a tool which helps the medicines to work better. It helps the body to heal faster.
Music has amazed me. Let it amaze you.
Jaya Guru Datta.
