Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji – April 19, 2014 – Australia

Jaya Guru Datta

We are very lucky to have Satsang like this with children singing bhajans beautifully in the presence of Sadguru. It reminds me of the ETV program where children sing film songs and alongside also sing Swamiji’s bhajans in different languages. They practice and sing beautifully. It is a very popular program on television.

Some of the bhajans are rich with spiritual meaning. All the bhajans are easy to sing. Some people get bored singing only God’s names. Self-knowledge is very important to attain. Prayer and contemplation about God are very important. Singing the praises of God is very important. Astrologers do not give a very promising picture for this world. We must strengthen ourselves for the future with prayers. Every moment is precious. Do not waste it.

Omkara or silent prayer gives bliss. Practice is important. Daily for at least 40 minutes do pranayama and meditation. Then sing bhajans. Bhajan singing creates silence in the mind. There are 3 kinds of worship. One is loud chanting or singing. The second is giving lip movement only without giving sound. The third is silent prayer with internal mantra chanting or prayers. You begin with loudly expressing. Slowly you graduate to silence. If you practice, you yourself will experience the bliss of silence. You may mix all these three also. All three are your friends; those who practice in the three different kinds are like brothers. More energy is there in silence. Mounam kalaham nasti. Mounam sakalam siddhi. Silence prevents quarrels. Silence accomplishes everything.

People are always looking for new things, new friends, new tastes, and new clothes. They get easily bored. Because of that what happens is that they get sick. Ultimately, you attain vairagya, disinterest. What is new today is automatically old tomorrow. What is very nice and tasty today will lose its taste tomorrow. After a few days, you lose interest in it altogether. Be contented with what you have. Don’t keep complaining, and comparing with others and feel dissatisfied. You must remain contented. Do not always be entertaining desires, always yearning for new thrills and new tastes. Enjoy the old as you also try new things. Same rice, same sugar, same jaggery, but new combinations are invented constantly. Children complain to mother that always she feeds the same thing. Mothers use recipe books to try out new recipes using the same ingredients without telling them that, to please them.
