Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji in the evening – December 30, 2014 – Vijayawada

Jaya Guru Datta

The bottom line is that all the Datta devotees of Patamata ashram, all the citizens of Vijayawada, and actually all the Telugu people everywhere are very lucky. It is very fortunate that even Happy New Year has coincided with Vaikuntha Ekadashi. Therefore all English speaking people are also very lucky. We will have a celebration on Jan.1.

This sounds like a jaikara bhajan. The Victory slogan itself seems to be composed like a bhajan.

I said that the Hanuman mantra should be posted on the board for everyone to chant. Everyone should chant the Hanuman mantra every day.

(Tvamasmin kaarya niryoge
pramaanam harisattama
Hanuman yatnamaasthaaya
duhkha kshaya karo bhava)

It is the first mantra in the Sundara Kanda (in the Ramayana). Rama places Hanuman in a highly exalted position. The reason is that Hanuman is the form of Siva. That is why Siva has to be placed high. Siva also wished to take form and mingle with humans to give them protection, when Rama incarnated as a human being. Therefore, He took the form of Hanuman. This is explained in the Sundara Kanda. Rama requested Hanuman to render help to Him and remove His sorrow. Rama told Hanuman that Hanuman could accomplish anything if He put his mind to it.

Rama knew that the demon king was on the other side of the ocean. That demon had to be killed and Sita had to be rescued. Mother Goddess or Nature, incarnated as Mother Sita. Rama is the mind. Rama knew that Ravana had abducted Sita and kept her captive in Lanka. Rama had to protect her without giving her any pain. Rama had given a boon to Ravana that He personally would kill him. That is why He had to enact this big drama. To fulfill the boon that He Himself had given, Rama had to undertake this mission.

Jaya and Vijaya, the gatekeepers of Vishnu were born as demons as a result of a curse. They tormented Mother Nature. Nature had to be released from the clutches of the demons. Air alone can move about everywhere. He alone could accomplish this task. Siva took the form of Air and Hanuman. Rama joined His palms and prayed to Hanuman for help. Siva, out of compassion, became Rama’s servant. When you want to get your work done, even if it is a donkey that can help you, you have to bow down and touch its feet and request its help respectfully. There is nothing at all wrong in doing that. You should not become arrogant and egotistical about your own greatness and make demands.

A Guru can demand services. He should not request. But here, the relationship between Rama and Hanuman is different. Hanuman is greater than Rama.

Then what happened to Kartaveeryarjuna? He was destroyed. The same thing happened in the story of Viswamitra also. Viswamitra is a Sadguru. Before receiving the obeisance, if prematurely blessings are given, he himself will have a downfall. That is what it means. This theme repeats in many stories. Here, because Hanuman was none other than Lord Siva in the form of Air, Rama prayed to Him. Air can cross over anything, including an ocean. He can enter into anything. Nothing will touch him. In Lanka, the fire did not burn him. When he entered the ocean, the water did not touch him. When Ravana punched him, it did not touch him.

Siva is Himself the five elements. That is why He remains untouched. There is nothing wrong in such Hanuman, who is a form of Siva, receiving the prayers of Rama. Even on the day of the consecration of Hanuman here, I had instructed that the prayer shloka should be prominently posted. But you have not posted. I looked for it and did not find it. All the visitors should first chant the mantra and then have their darshan of the Lord. By tomorrow morning, have it posted. Whoever chants this mantra and looks at Hanuman, will succeed in their tasks.

Visit the Bangalore ashram. On weekends you cannot even enter the premises. Thousands of devotees come and thousands of coconuts are tied. Same thing happens in Kerala. Such a powerful Yantra was installed at these places. Someone asked why at their Hanuman shrine people do not throng in numbers to tie coconuts. I could not give them an answer. I simply was amused and left. Such a yantra should be installed there.

Therefore, at the commencement of the New Year, everyone should chant the mantra, have darshan and tie a coconut. I had not visited the Bangalore ashram in a long time because now they have built a Guru Nilayam close to the airport. It is not accessible to people due to strict security. So I do not visit the Bangalore ashram frequently due to traffic problems. Someone gifted a home to Swamiji near the airport. Some thousand devotees tied coconuts that Swamiji should come to the ashram. Swamiji was simply drawn magnetically to the ashram that evening. That power is immense. Do not think that I am speaking out of context. Not at all. On the other side of the ocean, Mother Sita repeated the same prayer to Hanuman. She requested Hanuman to accomplish a mission for her also. She told Hanuman to tell Rama that she was in grief, and that she was waiting for Rama. The way you have brought Rama’s signet ring, now take my hair ornament back to give to Rama, she prayed. As if by telepathy, Sita repeated the same mantra as Rama. There were no telephones or SMS messages then. Only a slight variation is there in the meter.

Anyone with any trouble, pain in the body, any discontentment, or a wish to accomplish some task, should use this mantra. But you should do it with faith. Demanding medicine from a doctor whom you do not trust, is useless. If you do so, the doctor will simply give you colored water. If someone demands favors from Sadguru because their neighbors are making fun of their faith in guru, do you think Swamiji will do you favors to prove a point? He will not do that. Such tactics will never work with Swamiji. He will tell you to simply endure the insults of the neighbors, or He will tell you to stop coming to see Him. When He says that, the devotees will come around. It is Swamiji, who insults you in form of the neighbors, because it is your karma to suffer insults. Swamiji does such things to give you mental strength. The sister-in-law’s insults if you cannot bear, then don’t come to Swamiji. Who is more important for you, the sister in law or Swamiji? If others are more important to you, I will even declare that I will not make you come to me against your will. It is wrong to speak like that with Swamiji. Swamiji is not a lollipop-sucking small child.

It is okay to express your grief. But don’t demand grace because others are criticizing. You must strengthen your devotion. What you should say to Swamiji is: No matter what others say, I will never leave you. I want only you. If you say that and you mean it and act accordingly, certainly I will show compassion. But to impress your neighbors I will not get you a job. On the other hand I will make you not get a job at all, so that more neighbors will find fault. It is wrong to threaten Sadguru like that, with such words. Am I a small child to be fed with threats of bad fellows coming to get me? A child will fall for such tricks. Not Swamiji. Your devotion must grow strong. Even if my attempts fail, I need my guru, you should say with stubborn determination. Such strong faith and devotion you must develop and I will appreciate that. You cannot just remain lazy.

to be continued..
