Gam Ganapataye Namaha. With that chant we entered this ashram to the accompaniment of Veena music, by breaking a coconut. That is how the Ashrama began. May 5, 1966 Swamiji saw and then entered this place. That is the correct date.
6-6-66 is not correct. The contractor built a structure, a Kuteera here for Swamiji during that month after we entered the premises, and engraved the wrong date on the cottage. It got stuck in the minds of devotees that that was the date of the Ashrama inauguration. Nagappa Chetty, the owner of Vishnu Coffee Works, and Sri Anantarama Bhatt were all there. Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada persons were the ones who went in a car and first saw this place.
May is the month of Swamiji’s Birthday, Narasimha Jayanti, Sri Jayalakshmi Mata Jayanti, and the Ashrama Inauguration Anniversary. All happen in May. It is a special month for Swamiji. Please correct the date of Ashrama Inauguration to 5-5-66. I had mentioned this many times before. But since the other date got entered in all the documents and registers, no one here has taken the effort to change it. Please do change it now. Please also inform Bala Swamiji.
Rains started after we entered the premises. A Pancha Veena concert took place on 6-6-66. Sabita, Nagappa Chetty’s daughter got married that day. R. Keshava Murthy’s troupe organized a concert where five Veenas were played. I remember that date.
Homa and Datta pratishtha took place here. Where the coconut was broken, it became the Narayana Peetham. It has become Datta Mayam (filled with the Datta energy). I am here with you by His grace. Great yoga (good fortune) merit was earned by all of us and it is by Datta’s compassion that we are communicating directly today with each other. It is because of His grace.
Happy Happy Happy anniversary. No problem about celebrating it on the wrong date. Remember 26-5-42 Swamiji’s Birthday.
Those dates, we will all celebrate. We will celebrate for the whole month of May. Never forget. That is danger if you forget the Anniversary altogether. Celebrating it on the wrong date is okay.
Now begins the 127th foreign trip. So many devotees are waiting for Swamiji. The whole world is my Ashrama. Many devotees cannot come here.
