Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji in the morning – May 31, 2014 – Nada Mantapam, Mysore

Jaya Guru Datta

Bengali is a very important language. It is associated with Mother Kali. If there are any problems in our body, or family, or if there is inertia, we will receive relief if we pray to Mother Kali. Since we pray to Her, you must learn Bengali language and Hindi. Both are closely related to Sanskrit, just as Marathi, and Gujarati. All are sister languages. Mother language is Sanskrit. Every one of us must learn Hindi. It is our national language. South Indians are showing reluctance to learn it. You all must learn it without fail. North Indians also dub South Indian languages as Madrasi. It is not correct. Sanskrit and Hindi are very close. Bengali is a musical language. It has great value.

The essence of a book can be given in one sentence. It is so powerful. It is the language of Mother Goddess. Rabindra Sangeet is not just patriotic music. It has a lot of inspirational and spiritual content. It helps to develop the personality. Many great composers have composed musical lyrics. In the Navavarana Songs, the entire principle of each Avarana of Mother Goddess has been condensed by Swamiji. 60 years ago there was no permission to reprint these songs. Now they have given permission and so Ashrama’s friend has made this collection item available to all of us. This language is pure. You feel like listening to it again and again. This CD belongs in every home.

First concern is the individual, then God, and then, family, community, state, and country.
First language is Hindi. Telugu is like a pickle, very tasty mixture. Some people eat Bobbatlu with pickle. The original taste of the delicious item is then spoiled.

In Dubai, they give samples of different perfumes. We get confused and cannot tell them apart. They then give coffee beans to smell. That neutralizes the sense of smell. Then the nose can differentiate the different fragrances.
We say we are bored and go to the cinema. We may have several DVDs at home, a large TV screen, and yet we go to the hall for a change. We lose our wallet, we stop on the way to eat hot spicy snack, and then get sick. Such changes you desire.

I tried to teach a parrot to say, Rama, Rama. It refused to respond in spite of my innumerable repetitions over several days. Then in frustration, I called it, “Koti!” meaning monkey. I went inside. At once it called out, Koti! We are children. We learn bad things quickly. We notice only bad things. We hear only bad things. That is why it is very important to be aware of what we expose children to. Avoid quarrels between husband and wife in the presence of children.

We must only see, smell, and listen to good things.

Every day, the news from the ashrama changes. Get apps about ashrama. Keep up with the latest news. You cannot claim that you do not know. In business, tax rules have to be kept up with. No excuses. Or else, fine will be levied. Every single day, devotees have to keep up with daily announcements. Those who say that they have no internet, I forgot my phone, are all just regular passengers in railways. Those who give excuses are routine members in the queue. Those who declare that Swamiji is their Guru must watch daily messages and MMS. Do not give any excuses. For love messages you use your IPhones, but you have no time to say Good Morning to your Sadguru. You say you know nothing about receiving or sending messages. Then promise to me that you will never touch a computer or a smart phone. Once you touch a device like that, you must maintain constant touch with Guru. Otherwise swear that you will not touch laptop or phone or else your ear will get scorched. So many apps are available. Bhajana Yogam, Lalita Sahasranamam, and countless other apps are available. Many are free. E for Edge will open slowly. Keep Wi-Fi for fast reception. 3 G cost is now much reduced. Take a vow otherwise that you will never touch a computer, laptop or IPhone. Then I will be happy. I will not scold you then. You keep 3 or 4 phones in your bags. You neglect Swamiji and His messages. Every one of you must show that you keep constant contact with Sadguru. Otherwise your relationship with Swamiji will be like that of a co-passenger on a bus or train. Is that what you want? Should you be considered by me as my close relative or a co-passenger on a bus who is soon forgotten?

When I refuse interview you complain that I am God and you are devotee and I am refusing to see you. I feel very unhappy. What did Rama say in the end, before ending His life? These people are beyond hope of redemption. Adi Sankara said the same thing. They said in the end. I say while I am living. You will not change. You will not fulfill your lives. Only for selfish purposes you want Guru. Only in difficulties you seek out Guru. You are not bothered about what happens in the ashram. You think by bribing Guru you can overcome difficulties? What is the benefit you receive from Guru? You have no awareness. I feel very unhappy. Like Ganapathi you expect me to come to your rescue in all times of troubles. A great man came to my house. Give him harati. Give him ten lakhs. That is all that is important for you. Only physical relationship you want. Not Soul relationship. When will you become mature? When will you strengthen your spiritual relationship with Guru?

This is a private conversation with my devotees. Today and tomorrow it is our private time. We will fight, we will quarrel, and we will scold one another. We need one another. That is all. What happened before in the past few days, is for the public, for newspaper publication. This is ninda stuti. It is not wrong. It is never wrong. Unknowingly you commit mistakes, you are bothered by this body, these sense organs, hunger, thirst, sleep. You have to transcend these and practice relationship with Guru and devotion. Problems with children. The body does not always cooperate. Sometimes finances do not cooperate. Tickets will not be available. Everyone is not free and at leisure like me. In between, you must make time for the mind to dwell on Guru. You must teach the mind.

This life is not permanent. Where we will be reborn, we do not know. Whether we desire it or not, God will throw us into another womb. We must not lose our contact with Sadguru. I am not upset. I have no anger. I only feel pity for you. You are missing your opportunities. You are missing some programs. If I think that you are doing wrong, would I keep you in my presence, would I give you Teertham? Would I let you sleep in the ashram? You have come for me. I exist for you. I want you to firm up your relationship with Guru. It is in a confused state. It is all disorganized. You have devotion, interest, sacrifice, and yet, your behavior and attitude are not properly mixed with all the ingredients in the right proportions. The mixing, the combination is not right.

We listen to Swamiji’s bhajans, words, we come running to see Swamiji. We stay back because our mind resists leaving. We feel that Swamiji is telling us to stay longer. Everything is there. But you are not properly decorating or dressing or presenting it all in the right manner. The matter is there. But you do not organize the material properly. The serving is haphazard. It is like all the food items are there. But the sequence of serving each item is wrong. The positioning, the order, the proportions are all wrong. It is as if a delicious meal is there, but you fail in serving it properly. You cannot eat the food in haste, and you should not eat the items in the wrong sequence. Quantity is there. But no quality. What sweet you have eaten, what fruit you have eaten, in what sequence? It is all very important. Cooking is an art. Serving is an art. Eating properly is an art. Mother may have only four cooking pans. She tactfully cooks several items re-using the same pots. But we fail in eating elegantly. You have grasped Swamiji. But not with art. You abruptly approach Him, talk to Him at wrong times. You interrupt at wrong times. You must cooperate with Him in his work. Then He will cooperate with you.

The senior devotees should set an example to the new comers. Otherwise, they will learn the bad ways from you. It is a sin. For everything there is a proper time. At the time of offering, you offer. At the time of Pada Puja, you utilize the time. Swamiji is reluctant to come into the public. Why has Swamiji started using the bridges? You have deprived Him of the freedom to walk freely in His own ashram. He has to move stealthily in His own home. Is it nice? Wherever I go, I am obstructed. I am interrupted. You have to wait for your opportunity and a proper time. There are many who anonymously give their offerings in the hundi. But the aggressive, indecent people spoil the mood. A buffalo that is fed lovingly, gives good milk. But if you simply throw food at it, it will not yield good milk. You have not grown in being civilized in the presence of Guru. You are never satisfied unless you get personal interviews. You come for celebrations and give Him harassment without happily enjoying the programs. For twenty years I am telling you this.

You still have not changed. You are so scared that you will miss His grace. The demons aggressively fought for Amrita. They lost. The deities who waited patiently got the Amrita from Vishnu who wore the guise of Mohini to distract the demons. God played a trick on the demons who chased after Mohini. The deities patiently waited in the line. The celestials kept their focus on the real reward. The demonic attitude that makes some devotees offer garlands and fruits aggressively, at inopportune moments, will lose out. You may think that you got a great chance. Does Swamiji need that garland or those fruits? You happily see Swamiji and enjoy the great fortune of witnessing that divine form. You are distracted. You miss. You brag that you do Guru’s service. I wish I had spoken about Ramayana or Bhagavatam during this time. But you have not grown to that level. What have you learned from Swamiji? Some bhajans. Got over some difficulties. Witnessed Brahmotsava. Ate good meals. Listened to concerts. That is all. Next, if you are asked by some outsiders if Swamiji does not teach anything spiritual, what do you say? You must grow up spiritually. Appaji is 72. You should be able to tell the future generations how beautifully your Guru has shaped your personality, how He has led you on the spiritual path. You have the wisdom. You do not know how to share it with others. Some devotees have the rarest experiences that are divine and copious and can be put into 100s of pages. You need perfect tuning. Otherwise like a wrongly set up microphone system it goes GRRRRRRR. No proper discipline. You keep a big portrait of Swamiji. What is the use?

Are you hurt that I am scolding? I will stop. Should I instead make you laugh with buffoon acts? But that will not transform you. If you do not like this scolding, tell me, and we will have a comedy show to make you laugh. I do not mean to hurt you. I am only fine tuning you. I have wonderful equipment here. I have to keep it clean and keep it well tuned. A brand new bicycle or car is wiped clean every day. You fight if someone even touches it. After three months, you do not care about its maintenance. The same interest you must maintain throughout. You do not know such tricks. Let it be.
