Happy Sankranti to everyone. On Sankranti one should chant the Aditya Hridayam. The Sun grants good health. When Sri Rama was in despair on the battlefield, Sage Agastya descended there like Sadguru and taught Him this prayer, by chanting which, Sri Rama successfully won the battle against the demon Ravana.

Swamiji has also chanted this prayers. Today is the equinox when the Sun begins his movement northward. Look at the sun everyday. Daily get some exposure to sunlight, in the morning time in the summer between 7-8 am and during the day in winter between 11-12 noon. At least ten minutes of daily exposure to the sun is important for health. You can do some yard work or other outdoor activities, like hanging clothes out to dry or watering the plants.

Everyday perform Surya Namaskaram. Learn to do it. Teach others. Do Pranayama. Do not leave the entire burden on Sadguru. It is wrong to do so. He will take care of us. But you must protect your own health. When a child is helpless, and cannot walk, eat, or clean itself, the mother cleans, feeds, and nourishes. But she does not continue after the child is grown up. Sadguru should be considered likewise. Sadguru not only follows you always, but resides in your heart if you do sadhana. Thyroid, sugar will be balanced. Fear will be dispelled. You will gain confidence and strength. Memory will improve. You will perform well in exams.

Sri Kodandaramayya’s wife, Santakumari garu is a lucky soul. I saw her recently in another town. She came to the ashrama also yesterday. She said you must give me darshan on Sankranti day. She received prasadam yesterday. She bid good bye to all the people as she left. She told them that she had darshan of Swamiji from a distance and also did Sadguru Paduka Puja and she was happy and contented. She merged in the feet of Sadguru. I give courage to the family members who bereave her demise. To effortlessly depart like that is indeed a blessing, without any illness or dependence on others for services. Unofficially Uttarayana commenced yesterday. So she has reached a higher plane of existence.

Chant the Aditya Hridayam daily, even while bathing or right afterwards. It takes less than five minutes to chant it. As you get ready for the day, you may chant it. Chant it while looking at the sun. Learn it and teach it to others.

Today is the day to give pumpkins as charity. This is harvest time. All materials are available in plenty. With wheat, payasam is made, and offered to the Sun God. The Sun is described as having no teeth. Wheat is good for health. Sesame seeds are consumed on Sankranti day along with jaggery. Eat it and speak sweet words, say the Kannada people. Sesame seeds increase energy and heat in the body. They help digestion. Sesame seed contains some fat, no doubt, but not as much as cheese. You eat pizza but refuse to eat sesame seeds. You are misinformed.

I was named Harsha. People called me Arisa, the favorite sweet that is served today. It is my favorite sweet also. All grains and vegetables should be given in charity and offered in temples. Pumpkin is a huge vegetable.

Kushmanda homa is an important homa. There is an explanation in Bhaktimala magazine about the Kushmanda mantras which destroy our sins. We are not even aware of what sin is. We think that whatever is convenient for us is good and what is inconvenient is sin. It is not so. Virtue and vice are subtle matters. We commit sins even while in the womb, in infancy, childhood, and in all stages of life. Sometimes we acquire the sins of our neighbors and family members. The sins of others will trouble us. The Kushmanda mantras are not related to the Pumpkin but they have that name. Kushmanda Bali is given at the end of Navaratri Puja performed by Swamiji. All the witnesses of the Puja get their sins destroyed the way the pumpkin gets shattered to pieces.

You please go in a queue and pick up the pumpkin and offer it to Mother Goddess. Pray for good health for Sadguru, for yourself and for world peace. In Uttarayana auspicious time, which begins today, the merit gets doubled for charitable works. Soura/Sun Homa is taking place. Please participate. This evening we will have a bhajan session.
I pray for Sadguru’s grace for all the students to do well in studies.

Bhajan: Guru padamu

Exams are approaching. Tension is experienced not only by the students, but also the teachers, schools, parents, and gurus, including Appaji. Everyone wishes that the students should perform well. Therefore, we offer prayers to Mother Saraswati, the Goddess of Education and Knowledge.

Saraswati namastubhyam …

We begin our studies the day before the exam, and not well in advance. That is why tension is caused.

Bhajans: Chaduvula talli saraswati, Jaya jaya marakata rajeswari, Siva siva sankara, Edukondala sami govinda, Dandalu dandalu ramayya.

Anjaneya Swami/Hanuman is here. He is giving the essence of Rama’s nectar to us. Now there are no battles to fight. He is immersed in Rama dhyana. He danced in ecstasy without any rest. After Undaala, he should eat Undraallu, the treat, kept with him in a bag.

Bhajan: Namami vedamataram

Today is Makara Sankranti, Uttarayana Punya Kalam commences today. We worshiped the Sun God this morning. We will also sing Saptaswaroodham after this praise of Mother Gayathri.

Om Sri Suryaya Namaha

Bhajan: Saptaswaroodham

We pray for balance in nature, timely rains and good harvests. We pray that our country and the entire world should be safe and well-protected with plenty in all fields.

There are many poor people who are shivering in the cold outside on the streets. Please provide them some blankets, even if they are used blankets, please wash and iron them before distributing them. When you see the smile of gratitude on their faces, you will experience Sadguru’s presence there. We now have the program of going out to distribute blankets to the poor.

Once Sadguru draws you close, you must never leave His side. Ramesh of Burra Katha troupe distanced himself of late, but now he has come back. We welcome his Burra Katha act now.

We should only worship our Sadgurudeva as Datta avatara. I am not happy if you refer to me as Lord Subrahmanya. I am only the dust from the feet of the Lord. Please never make such statements about me in public. If you have such feelings, keep them only inside your heart. Never make it public. Please do not mistake that I am speaking like this on this auspicious day.

(A joke was rendered about an old couple who shared the same set of dentures and took turns in eating in restaurants.)
Who is in charge of brushing the dentures?

The mother of Ramesh, Mani, keeps looking at the picture of Kali, the parrot on Swamiji’s arm in the photo on the backdrop because she believes that the parrot is her reincarnated husband. (The parrot says to her, “I love you Mani”. The woman is now rendering services in Shuka Vana at Mysore ashrama.)
