Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji – evening – August 31, 2015 – KSHT Frisco, TX USA
Jaya Guru Datta
Jai Veera Hanuman ki Jai
You must conquer the weakness of developing attachments. Only then you can rise spiritually. If you build attachments, and the object of your attachment is lost or distanced, you take a downfall, like Jada Bharata. He was a great Tapaswi. A great Yogi and Pundit. Yet, he hankered after a deer out of an obsessive attachment towards it (story from the Bhagavatam). Then when Bharata died, he was reborn as a deer. Our country is named after this great King Bharata. He was a great Mahatma (who relinquished his kingdom to engage in deep penance).
You should practice keeping only fifty per cent attachment, and that too, only towards Sadguru. But you will not be reborn as Sadguru. You may be reborn as a monkey, a dog, or a deer, but not as a Sadguru. You should pretend as if you are attached to the people of the world. But do not be attached. Guru’s spiritual wisdom you will acquire by your attachment only with Guru. The knowledge which is Guru’s experience, that, you will obtain. He will transfer that to you, if you leave the world remembering only Guru. Do not think of worldly things. Guru’s body sense, physical form, you are getting attached to. That is not the real thing.
Practice spirituality. Show love towards the near and dear ones. There is nothing wrong in it. But they are not everything to you. God should be your focus. Sadguru’s words and actions are true and enduring. Do not be attached to things of the world all of which are temporary. Do not waste your time. You got a great opportunity in Dallas to offer services.
Sing Bhajans. Chant the Hanuman Chalisa. Chant God’s name always. Utilize your time properly. Otherwise, sorrow will overtake you. Even excessive joy you must give up. Leave off both happiness and sadness.
This is worldly life. We have taken a Karma body, with eating, talking, and involvement in relationships. Only a small per cent of your attention and time should be allotted to these. The major part of your time should be directed towards God. Then everything will be all right. Otherwise, life will have no meaning – it will be just mechanically going through birth and death.
One family is there in Mysore.
Madhu aunty, in the last moments of her life, wished to send a Rakhi to Swamiji. She gestured to her family. Then she breathed her last. This happened some days ago. Her devotion is remarkable. The last one month of her life she did not eat or drink anything. She bid farewell to Swamiji when he left India to travel to Dallas.
(Sept.1 is her Vaikuntha Samaradhana ceremony)
Sri H V Prasad: In 1972 Sri Swamiji visited Delhi. Kailas Talwar, who had a family-owned printing press, printed Sri Swamiji’s souvenir upon the request made by Prof. Krishna Kumar. Thereafter the family became ardent devotees of Sri Swamiji. Kailas was involved in a gruesome accident. His life was saved by Sri Swamiji. The family moved to Mysore upon Sri Swamiji’s command and lived a simple life, giving up all luxuries and social activities. They helped to improve the Bhakti Mala monthly magazine by printing it in a better format by setting up a press inside the ashrama. From Mysore the family moved to Bangalore where a successful printing press is presently operational.
Madhu Talwar, wife of Kailas, moved to Mysore ashrama five years ago. She spent her days quietly, either devoutly sweeping the Datta Temple, or reading the Guru Charitra in Hindi. She never presented her problems before Sri Swamiji. Every year without fail, she was the first person to tie a Rakhi on Sri Swamiji’s wrist at Raksha Bandhan.
She developed a serious ailment and could not swallow food or drink during the last one month of her life. Although Punjabi, and belonged to the Kshatriya community, their son Guru learned Veda mantras at Mysore ashrama as per Sri Swamiji’s wish. Their daughter Anu became an Ayurvedic physician.
