Vishnu, the protector of the world, remains in Yoga Nidra from Ashadha Purnima to Kartika Purnima, according to the Puranas. Since during these four months multitudes of new plants, insects, birds, and other living beings proliferate all over the earth due to increased rains, this period has been described by our Puranas as the time of Brahma’s activity.
Brahma gives life to the souls only for the purpose of their achieving Brahma Jnana Siddhi. Hence, as stipulated by our ancient Dharma Shastras, the ascetics who hold the position as spiritual gurus in society, stop their travels at this time to remain amongst worthy devotees to share their Divine knowledge with them, in order to shape them into noble souls.
For this reason the scriptures have ordained the Chaturmasya Deeksha to the Yateeshwaras. They have also made a provision that this austerity may be followed for four fortnights instead, to reduce the burden on the householders.
The Dharma Shastras declare that not only the town where an ascetic who has totally renounced everything decides to stay to conduct the austerity of the Chaturmasya, but all the surrounding areas as well will flourish with all types of wealth and a righteous lifestyle.
Responding to the prayers of devotees, having obtained the permission of Sadgurudeva Sri Sri Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji, the Uttaradhipati of Avadhoota Datta Peetham, Paramahamsa Parivrajakacharyavarya Sri Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji has decided to conduct the 9th Chaturmasya Vrata of the year Nandana in the State of Karnataka, in the proximity of Sri Chamundeshwari Temple, which is one of the Ashtadasha Shaktipeethas of Mother Goddess, at Avadhoota Datta Peetham in the sacred city of Mysore.
In the year Nandana from Ashadha Shuddha Purnima, Tuesday 03-07-2012 (Guru Purnima day) to Nija Bhadrapa Shuddha Purnima, Sunday 30-09-2012 Sri Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji will be performing the Chaturmasya Vrata Deeksha accepting devotee’s request at Avadhoota Datta Peetham in Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashrama.
