Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji – Bhajan session – November 4, 2017 – Mysore
Compiled by: Saraswati de Boer
They (Swiss devotees in Fluëli Ranft, Switzerland) practice Mauna, so we also practice mauna, because mauna is very important for our body and mind. That’s why we must practice mauna. Mauna is more than yoga. Mauna is more than Divya Nama Sankeertana (singing the Glory of God). It’s final penance. It’s very powerful for our body, that’s why we practice mauna. If possible I only sing Rama, Hare Krishna, Govinda. Very slowly. Play little rhythm, little tabla, don’t sing loud, only softly.
Sri Swamiji is silent and then plays the synthesizer for 10 minutes.
You also go on with mauna. Close your eyes. Look for your mind and all sense organs. You can also think about your body inside. Your mind can travel through your body. Try to visualise your all your sense organs. Try to listen to sounds, your heartbeat. And also you can try to listen to the sounds of your nerves system.
I am very happy that you all practice mauna. Please continue this kind of mauna. Mauna is a very old technique. It’s more than yoga. Silence is very powerful. It will help your meditation and your daily routine in your life. Also it will keep your mind and body clean and healthy. Also it will give a clean mind and clear pictures what you are doing for your work. It will give good strength to you.
I have given so many meanings for mauna the last year. You can remember once again. Recall them and then you will understand what mauna is.
I think there are 3 parts in our body: one is the mind, one is the soul that means prana and one is the body. You must balance these three. Sometimes the mind is unbalanced, your sense organs are also unbalanced, maybe sick. Some problems occur. It’s very difficult to maintain health. For some reasons, automatically you will get problems in your body. Certain circumstances favor this, sometimes cold, sometimes too much heat. And also what you are eating is very important for your daily routine. Food is very important. Try to eat clean food. The food also helps for your meditation, and you mauna and also for your habits. You can practice for peace. Don’t get angry. Don’t get upset. Don’t cry unnecessary. You can avoid unnecessary things. Be happy. Always be happy. Too much sleep is also nog good. Too much food is also not good. Too much thinking is also not good. Balance all this. You can limit. You maintain these limits.
If you want you can take any name of God, or Omkara. Without any Omkara, without God’s name or sounds, you can also practice mauna. I told in the beginning you can listen to your heartbeat. You must go inside. Antarmukka (is going inside), that’s real mauna. You can travel through your whole body and listen to sounds and colors. So many rivers are in your body. That means nerves systems. You travel through your nerve system, through your whole body.
Just keep silence and close your eyes. Meditate. I will also join you. We will go ten minutes to mauna.
Sri Swamiji is silent for 10 minutes together with the mauna session in Fluëli Ranft and the devotees in the UPH. After 10 minutes Sri Swamiji is speaking again.
