This bhajan reads who all are possessive and jealous about what and on whom. The word Swartham (self, possessive, etc.) has a very wide meaning. The fact that the mother sleeps with the child can be said as what… out of love? Or out of pity? Or to correct the wrong of having a baby? It depends who you are. All members of a family are possessive of each other. Sometimes this possessive nature can be useful for the society. But that is a very small chance. If that possessiveness is limited to a very few members, it stands a good chance of bringing sorrow. How to be less possessive? To give up family and home? Certainly no. To be amidst the chaos without attachment. Such a great person was the great king Janaka. He practised this. One has to practice giving up. Once a beggar approached the elder Pandu, Dharmaraya, asking for help to get his daughter married. He was asked to come tomorrow. Then Bhima blew the conch which would have ordinarily meant victory in the war. All were confused. Upon enquiry Bhima said that he was happy that the beggar was asked to come tomorrow. Dharmaraya asked “Why should you feel happy if I postpone a matter?” Bhima said “I am happy because it means you will be alive tomorrow”. Then Dharmaraya felt ashamed and asked the beggar to come and receive alms at that very instant. Never postpone. You never know what will happen to you the next moment. See Bharata, Rama’s brother. Though he could have usurped the whole kingdom, he did not do it. He waited 14 years for Rama, ruling the kingdom with Rama’s Padukas.

See these stories millenniums old are being discussed at 21.30 hours in Vijayawada on 5th January.
It is so because they are very good souls who loved all and led life in all compassion.

Sri Swamiji sang “Tallivi Tandrivi Panduranga”

“Kaayena Vaacha Manasendriyeiva…”
