Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji to the Rotary Club of Mysore – Mysore – January 13, 2013
Jaya Guru Datta
“Lord Hanuman was recently consecrated here at the ashram. He is the supreme model for service. He grants good health, strength of body and mind, knowledge, and courage. He should be our mentor. We all should take personal initiative to seek out and help those around us who are in difficulty.
Your organization is doing excellent service by seeking out those who are disadvantaged in society and offering them aid and assistance.
There are many amidst us who require attention, assistance, and care. There are many who go unrecognized and suffer in silence. There are the aged who are many times ignored and neglected. Our ashram has a home for destitute women in Hyderabad (Amma Vodi), where elderly persons are provided a refreshing environment that is healthy for mind, body, and spirit.
Courage and hope should be instilled in persons who are less fortunate. There are those, whose one remaining leg does the work of both legs; whose one remaining hand does the work of both hands; and whose one remaining eye does the work of both eyes. I have seen on television one person with no legs, no hands, and with only one eye writing an exam using the mouth, and earning a degree. Such hope, courage and determination should be encouraged.
I have a bird that has lost one leg. Yet it persists in climbing and flying undeterred. There is much to learn from such a positive attitude.”
