Speeches of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji – May 18, 2014 – Mysore
Speech during Annual Veda Examinations conducted by Veda Patasala
Jaya Guru Datta
Just as you feel the urge to support schools for academic education, you must feel the strong obligation to support the Veda School also. How much do you spend on travel to come here? Pay half that amount as donation to Veda Patasala. Every one of you must support the Veda Nidhi.
Many Muslims and Christians secretly give donations to Sri Swamiji for protecting and preserving the Vedas. Are you not ashamed of yourselves, that you are showing indifference towards promoting the Vedas?
You must do your bit without expecting any return from Swamiji. These Veda students have come from faraway places, enduring all kinds of difficulties of travel in all kinds of weather. This certificate they earn here is recognized all over the world. They desire to acquire it by working hard for it.
All kinds of natural calamities like global warming, floods, fires, and tsunamis occur because Vedic Brahmins are suppressed, insulted, and neglected. They are unable to withstand the indifference and lack of respect shown towards them. Record these words for posterity.
Don’t criticize Swamiji’s different programs, like Birds, and Hospital, and so on.
This year make a resolve to donate to support one Veda student at least to acquire training in Vedas. Be determined that you will support the Veda Nidhi, which will in turn support the promotion and preservation of the Vedas.
I never make deals with Lord Dattatreya. I pray for the capacity to serve Him to my fullest ability. I never tell Him, if you do this for me, I will do that for you. The service to the Lord is rendered selflessly.
Please spread the word. Collect funds for Veda Nidhi. Support Veda Students who work very hard with dedication to maintain the Vedic traditions and knowledge.

Samsara is frightening. Lord Narasimha asked Prahlada, “Do you want to be emperor here or be an emperor to all the Demi gods like Yakshas and Gandharvas? Or do you wish to rule the whole earth? You do not answer me, perhaps because you are afraid of my form. Or are you worried about your father’s fate or angry that I killed your father? It is natural to have love for one’s father. I killed him most horribly. Perhaps that is why you are silent.”
Prahlada says finally, “Again and again, caught in this frightful worldly life, man remains helpless. Only by uttering the name of God, fear will be dispelled. You asked me if I am frightened of Your form. No. I am frightened only of worldly life. I cannot cross this terrible ocean. Let me never forget You or Your divine name. Only God’s name will save me. Hence, I take God’s name always. Fear is afraid of God. Bless me that I never forget You or Your name. Why should I be afraid of You? Fear itself will run away from You. It is impossible to extricate myself from this illusory world without Your help and without the help of God’s name.”
Let us now recollect one mantra from the Bhagavatam.
“I desire no empire or any position”, says Prahlada.
Let us take a bird’s eye view of the essence of this story. A bird is always very alert and looking for danger. The initial slokas give the essence of the whole story. The 100 verses of Shata Shloki Ramayana give the essence of the entire Ramayana. Merely memorizing the verses is useless. You must understand the story. This is not multiplication tables.
We confuse ourselves when the meaning of a story is not understood. Prahlada says to Lord Narasimha, “Let me always remain with You. You are not ferocious. You are very gentle in your expression.”
We have just celebrated Narasimha Jayanti. Let us sing one small bhajan on Lord Narasimha.
Bhajan: Narasimha Narasimha
You have succeeded in making me sing a bhajan on Narasimha.
Bhajan: Kitane Kitane janma liye
The visitors who come once in a while, out of the blue, to a Sunday bhajan session complain that Swamiji sang only two bhajans. Those who come every Sunday eagerly to hear Sri Swamiji’s bhajans and discourse, are justified in feeling disappointed at a short session, but not the rare visitor who comes at his or her personal whim and demands that Swamiji should sing a lot of bhajans. Do not demand. I am not obliged to satisfy your desires. Each is free to follow his or her own wishes.
Bhajan: Sabdamaya Sastramaya
Kakada harati
