Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji – November 24, 2001 – Germany
I have been asked to address the gathering here today. I do not know what to speak. I cannot speak as I am overwhelmed. I see the greatness and depth of Mauna (Silence) which speaks by itself and I say that Silence is the most powerful way to God. The silence I am talking about is not out of one which comes out of external disturbances. I am talking about an in depth silent self state. External disturbances such as hunger, anger and day to day confusions and erratic thoughts only cause temporary silence. But true self is always silent. Thereby a seeking mind learns to be silent for its own good. We have to move inward, in-depth for a silent retreat. Then you will understand the potency of silence.
I talk about Karna Samadhi (causing barrier to external sounds). It should not happen with cotton balls or any such thing. It has to happen by your volition and effort to close your eyes internally. You close your thoughts You look unto yourself. And this is hard work indeed. And that will lead to meditation automatically. Many people try to think too much of their future and what it can offer to them. And they plan. But for them silence would hardly mean much because they cannot switch off the mind easily from external temptations and attractions. You have to switch off ears, eyes, sounds, feelings, thoughts and bodily actions. Think of no matter or thing. No God. No sound and No Mantra. Because, your true self is beyond all this.
So many Gurus say A mantra is important. But they interpret in their own way according to their tendencies. What is required is Chitta Shuddhi (purification of the self) of its external impurities. (Veils). At some level we are trying to purify ourselves by what you saw and did just now. Such as Pada Puja, Karma, children education, homes etc., All kinds of services including social service is part of good Karma and following the instructions of a Sadguru is also a good karma. You might interpret my messages differently depending on the occasion. There are so many varieties to reach the path of self. But the final goal and the final good comes when you have achieved Chitta Shuddhi (puriity of intellect). Atman is clear and the true witness and is always silent. We try to achieve silence. Different temperament of people leads them to different masters and they get imbalanced in their thinking. If at all we have to seek the true self through discipline, we have to have a balance in ourselves and that result is God. And that is a sign of Godliness. Depending upon your eagerness and urge, Atman himself takes the form of a Guru rewarding you with a proper guidance, So don’t worry about following Gurus. You can follow the true knowledge and keep doing your regular Karma and duties without vitiating your mind.
There are so many questions for which people want answers immediately. But look at the questions and consider them carefully and you must find the answers your selves. If you have a doubt that is sincere, it will be answered immediately and no interpretations is required from any other person because your life lives on experiences. So, all the five elements are at work to teach you through experience (Experiential knowledge). So, your own surrounding will be your teacher.
Today we have a chaotic messy circumstance and there are natural calamities such as earth quakes, hurricanes etc., At the same time, our inner life is very much disturbed. We are not in calm waters of the ocean. There are too many waves of unwanted attraction sensory indulgences, heat , cold, disturbed mind,…. all in this ocean. In this small world, too many activities are taking place attracting your attention. Don’t forget that you are responsible for yourself and not your Guru. Don’t lose balance of mind and sensible approach and Guru. Later do not blame yourself also. Time is the all powerful healer and time will set things in proper and required momentum.
Time will lead you to the right knowledge, clearing all your obstructions and controlling our future also. You must follow so called “Karma” in order to find freedom in true sense and you should not get attached to the results of the Karma. Perform our duties diligently. I came to Germany because I wanted some little rest for this body. Because this body is also my devotee. I came to see you all. I am sitting as the captain of my ship and those who believe in my experience are safe in this boat. I am a good book in your hands and study me very well. It may be one year, ten year or timeless. Teaching will come to you from all corners. Experience Sri Swamiji and His compassion and remember that you have no right to say about other’s experiences unless you experience yourself something concrete and that is up to your Karma. This book (Sri Swamiji shows himself) is deep and has many pages. Do not be in confusion. Do not be in conflict. It is time to set our destiny in true contemplation and experience. Our journey has no stops. Do not hate yourself or hate others and we should not be escapists from our duties. We have a duty towards your husbands, wives, home, children, future and you cannot escape your spiritual goals also. Spirituality came by birth and even at the end of your journey you are spiritual. Think about Vedanta and the last word says you practice Mauna, Silence. Silence that is internal and silence that is absolute. If you follow your Dharma, just follow it implicitly and don’t question. That is what your master says to you. In this little accident, many people prayed for me. That is why I am here in Germany responding to your call. May the Lord Almighty Bless this world.
