Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji to Volunteer corps after the valedictory program – May 21, 2004 – Nada Mantapa Mysore
Swamiji said – Selfless service is Guru Seva. Since God resides in Humans and not on some mountain top, it is important to always bear in mind that Human Service is Godly Service. Serving humbly – even to those who are full of ego will help them to understand how prepared and dedicated you are. Volunteerism is not a easy job. Don’t just serve with just physical body. Add to it the devotion and humility.
In 1976 Swamiji went to the house of Maharaja’s house in Kashmir. He was a great writer and many awards had decorated him. Krishan Kumar used to say a lot about him. He used to ask if Krishan Kumar would take him to His (Krishan Kumar’s Swamiji). Krishan Kumar used to say that he would take him (Raja), only if he considered Swamiji as our Swamiji and not as His Swamiji.
Swamiji went to his house finally. He was simply dressed and looked very simple. His attire was so simple that he went un-noticed. Officials and guests who came to his house attended the program and had sumptuous food. It was only when they were leaving that they noticed the raja in simple dress. They were humbled by his humility.
See, you all must be like this. Your humility will win accolades to Sri Swamiji. Most of those who come to Ashrama are patients. You have to assist them. But they may look at you with suspicion to give their bags to you to carry. But establish good relations and win their trust.
Even a begger must get the same treatment what a Maharaja gets. You all are strands of a broomstick. I am the sweeper. So, you all have to bend and obey my instructions.
