Speeches by HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji on Fourth Karthika Somavara (Monday) – November 25, 2013 – Mysore
Morning
Jaya Guru Datta
Chanting the name of God, the mantra Namassivaya, is itself equivalent to having a vision of God. Birds, dogs, and monkeys chant the name of God, but people forget to chant the name of God. They are drowned in their greed, desires, lust, jealousy, anger, envy, abuse of the body, and so on. They forget the name of God. The mantra Namassivaya should ever be on your tongue, whether you sit, lie down, or stand, it is a mantra that pleases all Gods. It is the favorite mantra of Rama also. It is the same as remembering and worshiping Vishnu. in the five syllables, na, ma, si, va, ya, the five elements are embedded. Our own palm represents this mantra. Vishnu is the protector of it. The palm is in three parts and contains the energies of Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheswara. Every morning both palms should be seen and worshiped. No picture of any deity, or any image or idol or saligrama are required. Never lament that you are not equipped with worship materials. In your own two palms is the Supreme Soul. Each finger represents a part of the body. The finger pains when there is a problem in an organ of the body. The entire nerve system is represented in the palms. We have five bodies (sheaths), one for each of the elements. One body, but the functions are fivefold. One makes us laugh, one makes us cry, one makes us afraid, one makes us happy, and so. Keep chanting Namassivaya. I will repeat this message in the evening also. Keep chanting the mantra. Fulfill the purpose of your lives. In this lamentable Kali Yuga, with floods, and calamities, Datta devotees are safe as if in a steel chest.
Swamiji is doing a project for Shuka Vana. He is struggling very hard to accomplish this. He will not rest until it is completed. It is similar to the Bonsai project. All of you must support this project financially and physically. I have not allowed anyone to escape from helping and participating in this effort. Every place I visit, I solicit support, be it Delhi, Surat or Dubai, or a country of any religion. People do not take the initiative, by and large, to come forward and help on their own. They have to be forced to participate. Many people spend on court cases, accidents, operations, clothes, or some frivolities. You do not show dedication to Guru. You wait until you are compelled. Without shame now I beg for food for the parrots. You do not feel any shame for not supporting your Guru’ s plan. You do not feel any loyalty or love. You are not ashamed that you are not helping your Guru’s project. Shuka Vana should be ready by Datta Jayanti. We have talking birds. We have not displayed them because I am afraid of attracting the evil eye. In your entire lifetime, you will not see such birds, not even in movies.
Bonsai is also very special. Every date is represented by a tree. Each month is represented by a tree. Every raga/musical scale is represented by a tree. We are all highly dependent on trees and birds. We are descendents of trees and birds. Without the five elements, without water, or air, we cannot survive. Worship or respect is given here to the five elements, in the Mysore ashram. The birthday pillars are not just stone pillars. Every one of you must see your birthday pillar every day and touch it once. It is energized with your special deity’s divine power. You will experience the effect. Then you do not need Guru’s interview even. You can sponsor again for Shuka Vana even if you have already sponsored, or sponsor in the names of every friend and relative, or sponsor on the date of birthday, anniversary, or housewarming ceremony. How many of you have seen your photographs taken as sponsors with Swamiji and a parrot, on the website? You are lazy to even visit the SGS Birds website. Please become familiar with it. Instead of spending on flower garlands, spend on bird feed and donate it.

Evening after Fourth Karthika Somavara Shiva Abhisheka and Puja
Jaya Guru Datta
Sambho Mahadeva sambho mahadeva sambho mahadeva sambho sambho.
Why did I say Sambho? (In Telugu language chembu which sounds similar to Sambhu is a small water pot) Once an old lady went to bathe in River Ganga. She took along with her, like old time travelers, a metal chembu. But when she decided to take a dip in the river, she needed to safeguard her possession. She turned it upside down and covered it with sand on the river bank so that it looked like a Siva Linga. She felt that she had successfully camouflaged the pot and confidently went to bathe in the holy waters. The temperature of the water was comfortable and she forgot herself in the pleasure of bathing, and took long to return to the river bank. In the meantime many other travelers came to the spot and noticing the attractive Siva Linga, covered their water pots also similarly with sand to hide them from would-be thieves. Tourist busloads of pilgrims arrived and every one of them did likewise. Very soon the river bank was filled with the suddenly sprouted Siva Lingas. When the old lady came back, she was aghast to see so many Siva lingas and it was impossible for her to identify her own water pot amidst the thousands that were scattered everywhere. So she cried, “Chembo, chembu, Chembo Mahadeva”.
In the olden days any vessel with a rounded bottom would be inverted, and worshiped as Siva with Bilva leaves placed on it amidst the chanting of Om Namassivaya. Even non-vegetarians would consider the egg shape as a Siva Linga and would give up eating eggs. Even the human head is in the shape of a Siva Linga. Siva is pictured with a beard and a mustache. Krishna, the ever youthful Lord never had a beard and a mustache. Although he was the Supreme Male, Purushottama, the One who creates, sustains, and enchants the entire Universe and drowns it in illusion and an obsession for Him, He is pictured as being graceful and somewhat feminine in His beauty. Rama, we do not know whether He had a beard and a mustache.
We eat a full meal and then leave the leaf (plate). We should remove it and dispose of it. We throw trash everywhere all along the way as we travel. Now we have trained ourselves to put trash in the trash bins, including banana peels, coconut shells, or disposable dried leaf cups (donnelu). When homa is performed, as the sacred materials are offered into the fire, some spillage occurs. Some people gather it and throw it into the fire. That should not be done. Some rakshasas (evil spirits) will be lurking to find some food and these spilled materials should be left for them to gather and consume. They wait for their share of the offerings in this form. A mantra is chanted when offering the light of a lamp to God, “vahninaa …” When a light goes out, bad spirits gather. It is important to keep the lamp burning by re-lighting it if it goes out. When there is light, the bad spirits run away. When we offer to the 5 pranas (vital energies) prior to consuming food, we are offering food to the five elements.
The monthe of Kartika is a month of lights. You must show these lights the ancestral spirits. You should pray for the removal of darkness from within in the form of ego and ignorance. You must pray for the light of knowledge. Many people do not light lamps in their homes at the altar. The only fire they light at night is the mosquito coil or the mosquito repellent with light. That is the deity that is worshiped. If you light a lamp before God, evil spirits will go away. Even if electric lights are there, you must light a lamp for God. Reduce the usage of oil and ghee in the kitchen and utilize that quantity for lighting the lamps. You apply so much of excess oil that sticks to your hands onto your clothes or on the walls. Instead, conserve the oil or ghee that you use on chapatis or for frying, and use it for lighting lamps. We sinners we do not light lamps with oil or ghee. Only by doing that your souls will travel to higher planes. Today we have lit a lamp for God with 100,000 wicks (small wicks, all together it forms a ball) with pure ghee. One week’s supply of ghee per family is sufficient for lamps for God. It will help us to escape from the darkness of ego and confusion. Pray for the light of knowledge. This is the symbol for today. It is compulsory that you light a lamp everyday. Even a small candle is okay. But use protected lights. There are many such available. Sarees and dhoties that people wear these days, are combustible. If they catch fire, if you are not careful, you will be naked. They are of poor quality. Avoid wearing such clothes made with fabrics that pose a fire hazard. Make sure that you are not in danger. Be careful. There is healing power in lamps lit with ghee or sesame oil. It is good for vision. Do not overdo and stare at the fires.
Today is special for Siva. Sambhu is one who gives auspiciousness and knowledge. There is only one Mahadeva, Supreme Godhead. I bless you. Om Namassivaya. I am very happy.
We have apps for SGS Quotes, SGS MMS, and for Puttugam. SGS Birds also we have an app. You must read these proverbs or sayings everyday and memorize them. They are short and easy to remember. It is not business or propaganda. It is educational and informative. It is my duty to give you advice again and again, again and again.
