Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji during the inaugural session of 5th Volunteer camp – September 22 , 2013 – Mathura
Sri Maha Ganapataye Namaha ! Sri Saraswatyai Namaha ! Sri Pada Vallabha Narasimha Saraswati, Sri Guru Dattatreyaya Namaha !
This day reminded me of the day 66 years ago when Jaya Lakshmi Mata came to Mathura with Swamiji as a five year old boy. She described about Mathura then. Not many buildings and roads were there during that time in Madhura. Not many people also were found that time. Very few pilgrims were visiting this kshetra. Few choultries were found. Every person living then in Mathura claimed every corner of this town to be Sri Krishna’s birth place. Much later Swamiji again wanted to come to Mathura after the discourse of 10th chapter of Bhagavatam. But it didn’t happen.
The story of Krishna is of Dwapara yuga, which happened thousands of years ago. But it gives a feeling that it just happened few days ago. It appears as though the Krishna avatara just happened three days ago. Jaya Lakshmi Mata carrying me as a baby and holding water pot and singing the stories of Sri Krishna are coming to my memory like waves. It is as if she is singing today. From Vrindavan to Mathura, there used to be millions of cows. With the maya of Sri Krishna, these cows turned into soldiers and gopikas and gosais. Those cows bestowed nectar as milk. All the milk of these cows were left to the calf. After the calf takes milk from its mother, a vessel would be placed under the cow and the cow would fill those vessels with milk. Till the recent past, Swamiji has seen this practice in Mekedatu. My grandmother Savitramma followed this. Only on few occasions, farmers there used to take milk from cow and the rest of the time, it was left over. Cow’s milk, urine and dung are used for a variety of activities. The dried dung is used for flame in the stove, or for homas. Every part of the cow is very useful. Urine of cow can make a dead man alive. Such energy is there in cow’s urine. Every day it has to be taken as a dosage of medicine. It is nectar. Cow is treated very pious here. They are tied and controlled by Nada by Sri Krishna. We all are today in such a divine town of Mathura. We must make use of this. Though the parts of our body are not of any use for us, we must atleast use our body to be of some use to others. Atleast use your body to be of some use to yourself. You be of some use to yourself to get liberated. This is the path shown by Sri Krishna to us.
Remember my name which is the easiest way to liberation. This is the only dharma for you. Nama smarana is dharma – said Sri Krishna. When one is in the path of Nama Smarana, he never deceives others, does not lie and does not grab others’ money. He will be very controlled. He will be very peaceful at heart. This is the meaning of following Swadharma.
Respect other dharmas but follow yours. Leave all your superstitions. Asatya is more tastier than the truth. You may not like listening to the story of Paramatma so much. But you will like the stories of demons. Story of Paramatma is always very slow and peaceful. Knowing about demons is not so. You like lot of noise. This is a demonic character. Silence is Godly. Your voice should be silent and soft. So silence is Moksha. Such silence was observed by Sri Krishna. He faced many abuses. He protected everyone all around Him though He was stamped as a thief. He taught us how to repair ourselves. Some satellites in the space has self repairing capacity. When the computer is effected with virus, anti virus is loaded. It repairs itself. When a virus is spread through an email or a file, antivirus repairs by itself. This concept was taught by Sri Krishna long ago. He made the creation first and then He created humans in that. When you are hurt and wounded, there is no need for first aid. The healing system starts automatically. First bleeding stops and then the healing process starts. When it doesn’t stop bleeding, it means that there is something wrong in the body. This is an indication to check your fitness. When it stops bleeding, that means you are fine. Even before you reach to your doctor, it starts healing.
There are many monkeys at this place. Be careful. They are wondering who are all these monkeys here (referring to volunteers). They are thinking these monkeys are very systematic. If they stay here for a week, they too will become like us.
When you get hurt, it is true that you need medicine. But when you observe, within half an hour, it gets healed naturally. The army in the body starts working on this. But, if you are not fit, this army may not work in the healing process. Similarly, in the nature of every character, every human, every family, every tree, there is healing process naturally. They can automatically heal themselves. Another meaning for this healing is Volunteers. This is Swayam Seva – Self Service. There is no need to mention this time and again. Like the healing capacity exists naturally, an understanding to work on a specific thing at a specific time leading to specific result is a volunteer. You will not be called as a volunteer if you do not do even when told. You are like a week battalion in the body. You are of no use. It is waste of time and money. You are then assembling to show your bad habits. But if you dont care for all these and protect your nature and attend to the duty, then it is self service. You should not be told. You should act on your own to finish that task. You must not say that it is not your work.
Once a Guru assigns a task to His disciple. Even before starting that task, He immediately assigns another task and says this is urgent. Then what should you do? There is no time to complete both the tasks. Will you salute and go away or what would you do? Tell me tomorrow. It is very simple. You must do what ever was told currently. You understand only by examples. Let me tell you by example. Guru asks the disciple to bring one dosa. He brings and Guru starts eating dosa. He then asks for a pickle and says urgent. Immediately He asks for water. What should you do? Do you say No Guruji, you first asked for pickle so I will bring pickle? or will you stop bringing pickle and get water? What ever was told last, you should do. At the same time, you must also complete the first one. You must not leave it. You should not say, you have given the second task, so why the first one? This is called Volunteer system. After completing the second task you must not say that you are tired by completing the second task and leave the first one. Both are important. You must go beyond both. This is called natural healing. Dont think it is some medicine. Healing is there in air, water, sleep. It is there in our habits. It is there in the way we talk, the way we walk, the way we sleep. All these are observed in Yoga sutras. The direction we sit is observed, the way we look is observed. The way we sit is observed; are we in padmasana or badrasana? Which type of clothes were worn ? Which colors were worn? How is the complexion in the face? Which side are we looking? Are we looking at a guy or a girl? Everything is observed in a fraction of a second. This is a sutra. To know this, we are behind a Guru. We must know this. He will not tell us directly. But Guru makes us know all these. If directly told, you forget. But if it is made to know, you will remember it forever. Thus Krishna made every Gopika, every animal learn by themselves. We are today in such kshetra where this story happened. We must not look at the situation of the roads, count number of cars and monkeys, look at people who came, talk about the noise. Because we are in Kaliyuga it appears like that. But our mind should be in Dwapara yuga. Every second spent here is pious. We heard the story of Krishna from our Guru. Hence we must see Dwapara here. Think of the reason for which you came here. Swamiji will be with you for two more days. They said, I’m tired. Tiredness is for the body not for the Atma.
Jaya Guru Datta !
