Speeches of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji on the 2nd Day of Datta Jayanti Celebrations – December 5, 2014 – Msyore
Speech in the morning
Jaya Guru Datta
How many of you are members of Face book pages of Puttu Gam and Datta Peetham? Those of you who are not members, have been missing a lot in the recent 2-3 years. Anyone can Like the page. Give your email ID and take Facebook membership. You automatically get the news thenm in your newsfeed. You can send a request for friendship also. You may be lucky. News is also given sometimes in Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, etc.. Datta Mata in Telugu, Datta Nudi in Kannada, Puttu Gam Tamil/Malayalam, Puttu Gam Gujarati/Hindi pages are also there. Marathi page is also there. All those with smart phones can get information right away. Only brief information is given. Where is Swamiji? What is He doing? What is He saying today? All this information is given. Which country? What is His schedule? Go to these pages. See the latest photos also of all the important events. Then you are traveling with Swamiji.
If you do not have the smart phone, how about your children? All those who work on laptop, Android, Samsung, and IPad, why are you not members?
What is the use of having all these? You may as well throw them in the fire for us to at least heat water using that as fuel, for the winter time.
In this Kali Yuga, you must use these at least to use Facebook for only receiving messages and information about Swamiji. How many of you have seen sewer or drainage water? Why would you place your hands in them? Why would you bathe there, or wash your clothes in that dirty water? Facebook may be like that. But in Ganga, although contaminated water also gets mixed sometimes, it is still sacred water. Why have dirty friends, dirty news and dirty, naked photos on Facebook? Why do Datta devotees do such bad things just because others do it? We have our own self respect, morals, values. We have mothers, grandmothers, sisters, sisters-in-law, daughters, and wives. Don’t do such things.
You must go seeking and searching for good things. You should not go after dirty stuff just because it is there. One should not experience bad stuff. That is not the purpose of life. We must always make an effort to remove dirt from our minds, lives, and homes. For forty years I have been promoting all round cleanliness. Now the government of India is using the same slogan, saying “Svachcha Bharat” Clean India. For 40 years I have been saying: throw out old dented and smelly stuff from your homes. Don’t store filty stuff for sentimental reasons. Throw out trash and useless stuff. Keep kitchens and bathrooms clean. Always I insist on keeping ashrams clean. Rakshas – to wrap them or tie them, I said, use a tiny piece of thread or a small piece of paper. I don’t just give rakshas. I keep them in my bed room or prayer room for 2-3 days. I pray for them, to energize them with meditation and then only send them out for giving as prasadam. They are not given as they are received from those who prepare them. Keep the wrappers with you and throw them only in dust bins or trash cans. Do not litter the ashram with the papers which wrap the raksha prasadam. Thousands of them are given to devotees. I keep telling everyone to pick up trash and keep the ashram clean.
In the comments written by visitors to the ashram, it said: We have never seen a place as clean as this. About the volunteers it said: How courteous the volunteers are. The food in the ashram is most delicious. I eat to my satisfaction and sleep deeply when I am at the ashram. At home, I cannot eat well and have disturbed sleep. All the daughters feel that Swamiji is mother and father and treating them so well and the sons-in-law are treated royally. Yesterday we ordered new lush blankets for the winter cold. Mama – means Guru, not just uncle or father-in-law. We could not talk to Swamiji in an interview but we are very happy and comfortable. We feel at peace and calm. Only hot water for bath said Swamiji. We are very happy here.
You all have become volunteers yourselves and things here are moving so smoothly. Datta is God. He is Vishnu, Siva and Brahma. He is Guru. Then God came as Dakshinamurthy, Hayagreeva, Adi Sankara, then Sripada Vallabha, Narasimha Saraswati, all the way down to the present time as Sachchidananda. That is the lineage. Painlessly, without hurting anyone, Datta preserves Dharma in the world. Datta’s slogan and teaching is: Respect all religions. Adhere firmly to your own religion. Yes. Praise your God a million times. Never put down another person’s belief. I recollected the word: Viswatma in the Gnaa Na Bha Conference. It was conducted wonderfully. Sastra, Grammar, Bhakti, and Nada were all discussed. Since 40 days Vamshi Krishna Ghanapathi has been doing energetically many Vedic rituals and chants. By simply listening, you will also learn by absorbing the sounds. That is how it should happen. It like a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. Veda has such power. The phrases will stick in the mind. Viswatma means God is everywhere in the form of the entire Universe. He is in everyone and everything.
May all difficulties be removed. May all good wishes be fulfilled. As Brahma Datta gives us a good intellect. As Siva He destroys our sins. As Vishnu He protects and blesses us with happiness. Datta is three-in-one. He is All-in-one. He gives Jnana, knowledge, happiness, and good health. Tailabhishekam is very effective to remove all diseases. Datta is the Lord of all planets. Milk abhishekam cleans and energizes the mind. It makes the mind crystal clear and pure. Datta takes all forms. Like a child, like a crazy, angry, or sleepy person, He may appear at times.
Why is it no one takes me seriously when I get angry, disgusted, or if I scold severely? People laugh. People fear that something will happen to Swamiji but are not afraid of what will happen to them. Many people say: Please don’t hit us with your hands. It will hurt you. Here, please take this stick and hit us with it. Then I cannot help but laugh. They say: It will remove all our sins and diseases. Even if I am rude to you, you come back smiling. You say: We have self respect. But not with you. We see you like mother. Mother will first scold if a child falls and gets hurt. Then she cries and applies medicine. I will become like you. Unless I do so, I will not understand your reaction to my irritation or anger. You know that there is no ill intention in my mind when I pick a fight and shout and scold. there is only love and no hate in the heart. That is why people do not get angry with me. They do not fight back or get upset. They laugh and say: Hit us more and scold us more. Then our problems will go away.
The other night at 11 PM I went to the village across the street and gave them a good thrashing. At close to midnight they were bursting loud firecrackers in the street close to the Ashram. After I gave them a severe scolding, they realized their mistake. Afterwards they promised to never do it again. I told them to clean up the street of the mess they had created. Money is wasted. Causes asthma. Children get burns. Homes go up in flames with fire crackers. Only keep a small lamp at the altar. Never overdo it. Some people keep too many lamps and wear flammable sarees and have the loose fabric flying around. I am filled with tension. Even at weddings, Swamiji is most concerned about fire hazard. The agarbathis (incense sticks) and lamps should not cause danger. Swamiji goes to give blessings to the newly wedded couple. But he is too distracted with fire hazards lying around. I keep a close watch with great concern. Once, in Poundareeka Rangasthala, one woman’s saree was caught on fire. Luckily Swamiji was alert and noticed it in time. Nylon and polyester fabrics are like camphor. They go up in a blaze instantly. They are too light weight and fly in the breeze. I caution you always about safety and cleanliness in the home and in the surroundings. Take a vow. Share the food every Tuesday. Feed some poor, hungry persons. Keep clean the country and the ashramas. First clean the bathrooms. Shout loudly, Appaji, I have cleaned the bathrooms. I will certainly hear it.
Flight Vana was inaugurated yesterday. Yesterday some small birds resembling Flight were brought for people to see. One of them flew away. Finally it came back after great search today during the milk abhisheka. Amongst parrots, this is a small parrot, yellow-sided conure. Since the past few days, I spoke about Flight repeatedly for new devotees to learn about it. One devotee saw this bird in her dream and kept crying about the loss of Flight. She donated one lakh rupees to improve Flight Vana. Top ten birds contest will be held again to choose amongst the birds that were ill and have recovered.
Frontline magazine has an article about birds. Ever since we started keeping birds, daily there are miracle stories published about birds in newspapers and magazines worldwide. It is strange. Every year on Datta Jayanti, a Flight Award will be given to those who express extraordinary love for creatures. Please protect birds that are endangered. Just as in Bonsai form we protect trees, we must protect birds that have come to our country in the past, brought by the foreiners as pets. These birds cannot be set free. They will become prey to wild animals and birds.
Did we not host foreigners when they came to our country as guests? We have gone to an excess in treating the Britishers with too much hospitality, in the process losing our own freedom, and our homes. We must protect orphans and treat guests well. But we should do so while protecting ourselves. Protect the life and interests of others but not at the expense of your own life, your comfort, and interests. With Swamiji also, you cannot give everything to Swamiji and become a burden on Swamiji. Give me only 2% of what you have and continue to take care of yourself.
From foreign countries, these different species of birds have come to our country centuries ago. They were kept as pets. They cannot survive in the wild.
These parrots understand our feelings. They represent Shuka Brahma. When we protect and feed these birds, they will be reborn as noble human beings. Even before their next birth, they are protected and nourished for future wellbeing of the world. We are nurturing good tendencies and encouraging a good nature in the creatures which will soon be taking birth as human beings, perhaps our own relatives and friends. They will remember our kindness if we care for them now, protect them, and feed them. Out of gratitude they will be good to us in our future births.
Yesterday one bird accidentally lost a leg. When we care about it and feed it, that creature when it is reborn, will be grateful for our help. It will be born with gratitude in its heart. You can see the light in their eyes when they are shown kindness.
I have established a trust. 1000 birds and 30 people are supported, including their families. 150 people are committed to being loving caretakers of the birds at Shuka Vana. If I did not have their help, how can I take care of so many birds? My intention is fulfilled. The secret plan for a good future of mankind is established. The birds don’t call me. I go and see them. They wake me up daily. They say Happy Birthday. Rama, Good night they say at 11 PM, waiting up for me, as not even family members do normally. Namassivaya they say. Hanuma, one says. Only some birds speak. The entire Bhagavatam is Pakshi Purana, narrated by a parrot. It is our root epic. Ramayana also began only when Valmiki saw the pair of birds. Vishnu story is Garuda Purana. We need it for our future journey. Siva on Meenakshi’s arm lovingly looks at Her. Rama stays on Hanuma’s shoulders listening to Rama nama. All our scriptures pay great reverence to birds. We may not raise or feed or protect a bird. But our existence depends on birds. All our scriptures are there because of birds. For cats, dogs, and other pets we spend great wealth. You do not have to personally keep a bird as pet. Why not support at least those who take care of birds? If you feed a few seeds to a bird, that bird may be born in your family in future generations.
Do not complain that Swamiji is always speaking only about birds. I cure your diseases, I solve your problems, I feed you, I give hot water for your bath, and then I speak about birds. So, you must listen to my bird stories, and enjoy my Bird Upadesha.
Six Mudras for superb health were taught by Sri Swamiji at Jesus Datta Retreat Center. As a supplement to the Datta Kriya Yoga book, this booklet containing the instruction for doing these Mudras is available. It is released now.
