Kali is an African grey parrot born in Calcutta near Kali temple. Suresh and others went looking for it. Its video got 1.17 million views on YouTube as of today. By Swamiji’s grace after a lot of searching they found the bird. But the owners wanted to give it to them only after some time. They said it was too young and refused to give it. Pramod went again to bring it to Mysore quickly because Swamiji wanted to have it at once. They gave the parrot readily now, saying O we were waiting for you. That was strange. Small bird, very sweet and small and Appaji gave it cereal every day. Freedom to fly is given to the birds at Shuka Vana. We feel that we should not control their flight. We use cages for protection. We give them special food to grow wings and train them to fly. For generations these were only caged birds and the parents also never flew freely. These birds do not know naturally how to fly. Kali, when it tried to fly, fell and got injured. But it survived. It repeats every word that Swamiji speaks. Other people it bites. Not an ordinary parrot. It is a deity. Dr. Lakshmi knows. Always it is in danger and getting into trouble. It repeats every word. Monkey! it scolds. Chants mantras that it hears. There is a window in Guru Nilayam where it is kept in seclusion. It repeats the words of the attendants. Chinmayi volunteer kept watching movies on iPad. Parrot revealed the secret. Neela and others stay quiet around the parrot. I assumed leg pain for three months as a punishment, because it lost a foot because of my action. Good things happened because of it, no doubt. (Swamiji played 400 new healing tunes during that period in a state of trance). I was in so much pain, I just could not put my foot down. It lost its foot. I suffered. This same Dr. Lakshmi took care of it. She grew up with me. Her parents left her with me. She is an MD Ayurvedic doctor. Does physiotherapy with oil and she gave me treatment. Finally I got well.
This bird flies very speedily. With one foot it manages very well. We now protect it. One day it came to my beard when I went walking in the Bonsai garden. It suddenly flew away in the evening. It is a very small parrot. We could not find it. It normally will not leave Swamiji. It went and fell in the basket of thorams/orange sacred Hanuman wrist bands. Once when APPAJI was out of town the assisting birds were taken away to Shuka Vana because they were being mischievous. This one was given another companion. Like a security guard, it escorts it. Flight is its name. Flies like a jet plane. When it strays away, the escort brings it back. The companion. It says Rama. Sleeps with it.
Only forty parrots are special, with special doctors, trainers and volunteers who are college graduates. These birds are not for public view. These are deities. In America Indra is a parrot that is with Chundu Srinivas. It also talks.
Hanuma almost died a couple of months ago. Vishwaksena’s parrot from Dallas. Swamiji, over the phone gave treatment to it, giving mantras to be whispered in its ear. Now it is recovering. It kissed me yesterday. It almost died. It was in a coma. At the right time the treatment had to be given. At once. After the accident.
That is why I insist that devotees give Swamiji their photos. Name and details should be put on the sgs birds website for immediate access by Swamiji. Volunteers search to get information to Swamiji for him to help the devotees when they are in danger. If the devotees do not receive help within a few days, later without proper attention they die. Think about it. Swamiji is doing this for your benefit. Senior devotees also, some of them do not register for any project, do not participate in any seva. Do not put their photo. Even on Internet accounts they put a picture of a flower or a doll instead of their own photo. You give photos for identification cards, for passports. But restrict to give to Swamiji. Swamiji protects lives. Group photos are taken for bird sponsors. You ask foolishly, Why photo for Swamiji? He can save us by his spiritual power. Useless talk. But at interview time, they speak differently. You speak with false detachment. You do not realize. You need Swamiji’s support and protection. He is your family friend. Savior. Guru. Rama cried for Jatayu and Sampati and gave them liberation. Rama became a parrot to listen to Hanuman chanting the name of Rama.
During snowfall birds do not get enough food. They suffer a lot. Offer them some seeds. After all, they eat so little, only a few grains. Rama loved birds. We would not have the Ramayana without birds.
