This is a good time. Happy Father’s Day! I don’t know who began this festival. Maybe the Greeting Card sales people. These cracky (crazy) people want to make money, so they initiated Mother’s Day, Grandmother’s Day, Aunty Day, Uncle Day, Today, Sunday, Our day. Today is only Our Day. Sadguru Darshan Day is Our Day. Sadguru MMS Day, people should say, this is My Day. Appaji Day is My Day. He gives good knowledge. The day we hear or read good messages and earn good knowledge, such a day is a Good Day. Those days when we neglect to see or read the MMS (Musical Message Sayings) of Appaji, or the days when we fail to listen to Swamiji’s Kavacha Manjari, such a day is a Sin Day. They are sinful days.
Out of grief people forget to do these things. From being too busy they forget. From being too happy, extremely happy also they forget daily Guru darshan, daily Hanuman Chaleesa, Guru Mantra, automatically they forget. They are either too busy or extremely happy. Then they speak Vedanta. You are in my heart, in my heart. I don’t know. What is in your heart? Only air and blood are in your heart. How can you say Swamiji is in your heart? Your heart is only a blood bank. Only sense organs are working because of the air and blood. How can Swamiji be inside your heart? If He is there, immediately an operation has to be performed. Blockage it will cause. Immediate operation will be required. You are lazy and unashamed, those of you who keep saying, you are in my mind, you are in my heart. All blood vessels will get blocked if I really occupy your heart. For ages you keep repeating these words. Escapists only speak like this, those who forget to chant the Guru Mantra. How can you say Swamiji is in the heart?
Laziness and escapism is in 99 per cent of the people. Escapism. Sorry-ism. In that you have real greatness. There is bondage. Last year I gave 1000 dollars you say, if asked if you have helped in a project. Yesterday you ate. In the morning you ate. You breathed yesterday. Why not stop now? Why are you not bored with breathing? You are very busy you say. Today you are very busy. So why do you not stop breathing? Actually no work at all. You get very nice rest, a permanent holiday if you stop breathing. This type of talking is not appreciated. You do not accept. You justify. You do not accept your mistakes and apologize. You give excuses all the time.
I wanted to see you. I wanted to be with you. They sent me away although I said no. After they lost my company they wring their hands in regret. They send telegrams but do not give the proper information. They justify saying He told us not to inform so we withheld the truth. That way, you protect both ends. He speaks the truth to let you know.
Explain to the children this beautiful story.
One king went hunting. Americans get a license to kill deer for sport. Poor animals are killed for sport. In ancient times kings used to hunt for sport. Some piglets came running to the hermitage of one rishi. They ran and hid inside to escape from the hunter. The Maharshi was asked by the king, two small pigs have escaped. Did you see them? If the sage says, yes, they came this way, the king will kill them. If he says, no, they did not come this way, he would be telling a lie. So, what did the rishi say? The eye that can see does not speak. The tongue that can speak cannot see. The king left. He thought the saint was mad. He could not understand these puzzling words. The king thought that the sage had become crazy. There was hidden truth in the rishi’s words. That is how a trick was played on Swamiji. Next time, tricks or not, I will come no matter what.
All the children were happy yesterday and the day before yesterday. A couple of days I spent in Memphis. No work there. Simply sitting around, spending some time in the smoke filled area. Appaji became a lazy fellow. It was very difficult for Him. He needs to have work; He needs to have lots of devotees surrounding Him, making a lot of commotion. That He likes. He likes to be disturbed by them, He likes to scold them. That makes Him happy. I really got bored there. I thought at least for a day I will come and see you all and spend time with you.
That family and those temple people are very fond of Swamiji. Because He was invited for a good program, Swamiji agreed and went there. Even in His own ashram, it does not happen that Swamiji goes and sits for long for abhishekam or consecration. They were fortunate to have Swamiji there. That is all. If it were my own ashram, I could have done as I liked. But there it is not like that. Whether I liked to or not, there, I had to go as an obligation. I performed some duty without receiving any pay. I was busy being an utterly lazy fellow for three days. I blame myself for it. I scold myself for having been lazy for three days. I was happy to be with Lord Venkateswara. That was the only satisfaction. Those devotees did not realize the valuable butter they had in their palm. They dropped it and lost it, they have let me go. They have sent me away. If it had been up to you, you would have eaten up the butter, licked it clean without leaving any trace. Those people are so ignorant. From afar they offer prostrations, thinking that some ascetic has come amidst them.
I laugh at them for their foolishness. They are covered in illusion. I feel pity at their foolishness, I am not angry. You were also like that in the beginning. Only in course of time you have realized the value of Swamiji. Some fear, some sense of awe you felt at first, as they do now. Now you laugh at them, whether you express it in words or not. They will also change in time. Later they will also come close to Swamiji. Some circumstance will bring them. Some circumstance will occur. They need to experience for themselves. We are all human beings. It is difficult to understand Swamiji and the relationship with Him. Initially there is a lot of confusion. It is very difficult. Only slowly people will begin to understand. Not easy to understand in one, two or three days.
If it is a just married couple, where the man and woman had no previous acquaintance, it is difficult at first to adjust. The man would have just seen the woman. The woman would have just seen the man. It is difficult to adjust to the habits and attitudes. Superficially people will be smiling. Everything is new. Behavior and moods are tough to understand. Husband also is new. The family is a new family. Understanding the moods is tough. Woman also, what will be her mood? Will she get along with me? The husband will be anxious. The wife is also anxious. They do not know how to adjust. Bodies get close. That does not make them man and wife. That physical closeness is that of beasts. It is not possible to become husband and wife until the minds merge. Even after 30 years of marriage, sometimes the mental adjustment does not occur, to make them real husband and wife. Five children they would have given birth to. Still there will be no understanding between the couple. Swamiji is needed then. He will be in great demand at such times. He will then be in good business. If such problems did not exist, how would a Swamiji like me make a living?
It is the truth. It may sound strange when it is expressed like that, but how does a doctor make a living if illness does not exist? A famous specialist doctor does not wish for all to be well, and for no diseases to exist. He will only keep assuring that if there is any problem, he is there available and ready to help. He thrives on diseases. Hence, he never wishes that everyone should always remain healthy. It is because misunderstandings exist, that Gurus are in good business. Those who tell the future, those who read horoscopes, those who do parrot predictions (with tarot cards), those who do pujas and homas for others, should they not have a means for livelihood? Therefore, misunderstandings are essential to provide such people a livelihood. This may appear funny to hear these words. But a lot of truth is there in this. When misunderstandings occur, Gurus are required to solve the problems.
Problems do not get automatically solved. People are not capable of solving all their problems on their own. It would be good if they could. But it does not happen that way. Only when there is confusion in the mind, the one who removes such ignorance will be appreciated. If people were born already educated, there would be no need for schools. Because there is so much ignorance, so many schools are built and run. Because there is ignorance, schools thrive. Schools are not the ones to receive thanks. We must say thanks to ignorance. Because the ignorance is there, filling our stomachs, the schools are able to do a good job of removing it. That is why we send children to schools. They learn there to speak well, and to use computers. But knowledge is not absorbed into their heads. They are good at playing games. But do not acquire useful knowledge that needs to be learned. Temples, fortune-tellers, schools, and cakes are all required. Unless a cake is cut by Swamiji, how can everyone get a piece to eat?
