Speeches of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji – March 5, 2014 – Rameshwaram
Speech morning- Rameshwaram
Jaya Guru Datta
(Bala Kanda of Srimad Valmiki Ramayana translated into Telugu was prepared by Smt. Yadeswari in Braille script. It was offered by her father and released by Sri Swamiji).
Braille script. People with eye sight cannot read this script. Only the blind understand this. One has to learn that Braille language. Only then you will understand. It is a big art. A great scientist by that name has experimented and discovered this script. Today so many blind students are helped by this. There are many texts in Mysore Ashrama of many scriptures. Smt. Yadeswari has prepared many texts in this Braille script for the benefit of blind students. Spiritual texts are not usually available to them. I have searched in many libraries. The government sponsors only academic texts.
Different people are doing different types of service in different fields. It is done out of love and faith that Swamiji appreciates this type of service to humanity. Already Yadeswari has produced many such works. I pray to all the Gods Rama and Siva to give her strength to continue this work. She has done Guru Gita, SGS Life History and many Ashrama publications, a total of 80 books she has prepared, including the Anaghashtami Vrata procedure with the Yantra. This Anaghashtami Vrata is performed now by blind people. She finds sponsors or does the service on her own. She distributes these spiritual braille texts to several libraries.
In the name of Swamiji, even if you do a small service, such as feeding a bird, or a puppy, Swamiji appreciates the effort. Feed a cow a banana, saying Victory to Swamiji. Feed a monkey or a dog or a crow. A monkey will perhaps grab the food from you by force. Provide books to a poor student in the name of Swamiji. Even if you have to lie and say that Swamiji has entered your mind and has prompted you to do the good deed, it is still appreciated. The devotee will begin to feel that Lord Datta Himself has come in this form to do this charity, and will get transformed. People will change in this manner. The following day if someone mentions this, they will say, Swamiji did it, it was not I. But many people boast about their charity. They take credit. It is not right. It is Swamiji who inspires you to engage in charity. In Swamiji’s name do small favors like giving a pen, a book, and so on. Do not do big charities and get into trouble. When you help someone who is in need, they appreciate it. When you tell them that it is Swamiji who has prompted you to render the help, the person will get interested in knowing about Swamiji and will ask questions. He will feel like meeting Swamiji. You must convince the person that it is Swamiji who is the true helper. To develop such devotion towards Guru, you must engage in service in several different ways. It is not necessary to make it obvious and public. Yadeswari’s service is exemplary. It is as if she is doing it with an enlightened vision. She is having the Anagha Vratam performed in schools for the blind. In Mysore, in an institute, two children are doing great service in the name of Swamiji. Two devotees with the same name Manjula, render service in the name of Swamiji. One is the daughter of Sri Viswanatham. You also may render such service.
These days, birds are deprived of food in the farmlands where techniques are employed, such as hoisting flags that frighten the birds, to repel the birds from finding food there. Please give the birds some seeds to eat. In mango orchards they use harmful pesticides that are killing the birds. To save one mango they are murdering ten birds. What is the benefit in that? In the olden days, it was understood that the equivalent of fruits of one tree must be left for the birds to feed on. Okay, now if the bird population has increased, at least leave one small portion of the harvest for the birds to feed on. Do not keep a flag in one portion of the farm. Let the birds land there and find some food. Some of my devotees are following this practice. They have shown me photographs. I understand that they need to make a profit also.
Keep a pan with water mixed with a little honey, and keep a few grains such as millet for the birds to eat, that is enough. The birds will relish that water and food. Wherever they may be, when they get thirsty, they will remember this mother’s home and will come there. You will find such happiness at the sight of the birds returning day after day to get food and drink at your home. At first they may not come out of fear. After several days, they will gain confidence that it is safe and begin to come to feed. You will begin to see your relatives and even Swamiji in them.
Get an orphaned dog and take care of it. Keep a small hospital for injured or sick animals as they do in Europe and other countries. Here people do not care. There are people who will not even allow a dog to eat left over food. They beat up the dogs that come to eat from the garbage heaps. How will they live? They were born for a purpose. When they are ill-treated thus, will they not take revenge against us? They certainly will. They will curse that you should be reborn as a dog. You do not help the dog in any way. You pick up a stone and hit it for no reason. Why? You claim that it is mad. It is not a mad dog. It is acting that way because it is starved for food. You say it will bite. Why will it bite if you leave it alone? It bites only if you irritate it. You keep your distance. Then even a mad dog will not harm you. You make it scared and it retaliates for self-protection. You do not offer it even a grain of food. Do you feel sorry for its plight and express sympathy because it is fashionable to do so? Do you blame the dog, or blame God or blame yourself for this situation? Just give a morsel of food to the animals or birds. Whatever food is left over, feed it to them by placing it outside on a leaf. These are subtle ways that you can render service without spending any money or extra time. These are small acts of charity.
When creatures are satisfied, Guru is satisfied. When their hunger is satisfied, Guru is satisfied. Many hide their treats and eat them in private. During entire bhajan sessions there are many who keep munching on peanuts. They are always eating, like in a flour mill their teeth are always in action. Keep on chewing and munching. They smell so bad. You cannot go near such people. There are the nine holes in the body and they give out bad odor. It is very important to have control in eating habits. We do not exercise any restrictions. You should eat, talk, and sleep at appropriate times. When it is time to drink coffee, drink it up. But do not keep on getting up to get a cup of coffee. It is like people reaching out constantly for smoking tobacco/cigarettes. So much of life is wasted like this.
When you are able to sit steadily for 3-6 hours, you attain control in remaining seated (Asana Siddhi). You are not required to practice any type of yoga, as long as you are with Swamiji and you are able to sit still for hours without moving. When that is achieved, from that day onwards you can understand that you have attained Asana Siddhi. There is no higher yoga than this, especially if you also combine it with some pranayama. My Datta devotees have accomplished this great feat unlike others. There is no need for force, fees, a special instructor, a dress code or anything else. Starting with Swamiji’s puja, discourse, programs, homa, bhajans, and distribution of prasadams, you sit for 3-6 hours. Is there a greater yoga than this? You tell me. Others claim that you need to wear special clothing, hold your nose, or hold your neighbor’s nose and then only it can be called Yoga. I do not understand this. Especially in winter, is it possible to hold your neighbor’s nose? It is hard enough to manage our own nose. Like this, we complicate things. When you come to Swamiji, as the first step you get control in remaining seated in one spot. When you achieve this, the next step is that your mind comes under control. Your alertness improves at listening, touching, and seeing. Being in the presence of Sadguru is the strongest medicine that you can get in your life. When you sit with Sadguru for 3-6 hours, you definitely achieve Asana Siddhi. This is the absolute truth. This is the easiest method. I challenge. When you are able to sit like this, it removes all difficulties and solves all problems of your body. Control your sense organs. Control your mind. Control your intellect. It is best to sit on the floor. But it is okay to sit comfortably on a chair. That is also asana. That is yoga. Our Datta devotees are daily doing yoga.
Some people may think, What is this? Swamiji is always doing puja, always doing bhajans, always doing annadanam. Out of love for Swamiji, you are sitting. First lesson of Patanjali is Asana Siddhi. You must practice control in sitting still. Swamiji’s followers develop this control without even realizing it. They automatically attain this skill. What is lacking in our devotees? What benefit is lacking? Nothing is lacking. Nothing is falling short. Where is the need to look elsewhere when everything is obtained here? Swamiji does everything that is required. He does Jnana Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga. He grants Yoga Siddhi – attainment of the skills of yoga. What is deficient here? Why do you have a wavering mind? Why do you go here and there looking for something else? Wherever you may go, go around the globe, if you wish, it is guaranteed that you will come back here. Swamiji’s system is like a ball without an end and without a starting point. Go with any yoga, be any other Swamiji’s follower, you will certainly come back here in the end. I know that you have to come back here. You will not go anywhere. This love, this affection will forcefully bring you back here. You will be miserable elsewhere and confused. You will definitely return to this same place.
I have no problem. You may go ahead and try out new tastes. The more you veer off and go for different tastes, my glory will keep increasing. The farther away you go from home, the more you will realize the value of mother’s love. The farther you travel away the better you will understand the worth of your wife’s love. You have to learn your lessons, my children, you have to learn the hard way. When you go on a pilgrimage, you will know the value of your Swamiji. You will miss Him. Because there you find a system that is different, that is lacking love, that is full of empty words and no practice. You will realize your mistake, and will cry out for Swamiji. Whoever follows Datta Sadguru, with Lord Siva as witness, I declare that they will get what they aspire for. Lord Siva is the witness for this absolute truth.
Like beasts you waste your time. What knowledge are you seeking? In the end it all culminates only in silence. Where is your knowledge when you need it? How does all your knowledge help you? In what way does it save you? It is all a waste. Okay, go get knowledge. But that is not the ultimate. Only what your Sadguru gives, is the ultimate knowledge. When in the end Swamiji says, Om Namo Narayanaya, that is real knowledge. No other knowledge goes with you. In the last days of life, only silence remains. There is no control or awareness of speech or movement in extreme old age. A person in that last stage of life is a very tough human being. That stage is very tough to go through. If the children are good, if the friends are good, if the Guru is good, if the person’s past merit is good, then, it is not tough. During the days when you could have helped your friends and relatives, if you have neglected to do so, then, in your old age, the relatives and friends will only show irritation towards you. Helping others is the way we build up our bank balance. Sometimes total strangers come to our aid. They serve most unselfishly. Others may attribute selfish motives to them out of ignorance. But the ones who serve, serve out of kindness and a desire to serve.
There are many things for us to learn in a place of pilgrimage. Every moment, every day, there are lessons to learn. This second day has arrived so fast. Before we realized a night went by. We cannot catch up with time. We exist inside time. We cannot run after time. Time is running. Yesterday there was excitement that Swamiji is coming. Today, already one day is past.
I am very happy on this second day. We feel as if Swamiji has just arrived. Visit Koti Teertham if you can. Swamiji may not go there. If you cannot go, do not worry about it. Remain with Swamiji in your hearts.
The greatest title, a crown that you wear, that you can enjoy is, to be described as one who is mad about Swamiji. If someone grants you such a title, gives you such a recognition, be thrilled about it. Acknowledge it with glee. It sounds delightful to hear those words.
Once Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was seated somewhere and a mad man came there and sat close by. Observing Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, this mad fellow ran away frantically shouting, “Mad man, mad man, a mad man is sitting there.” He is a true devotee, who appears as a mad man even to a really mad man. Hearing himself described as a mad man, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa felt highly elated and exclaimed to Mother Goddess that now he is most happy. This was the moment that he had been waiting for, for so long.
The friendship of friends and relatives who criticize our love of Sadguru is not what we should seek. It only brings woe in the end. We should simply get away from such people, bidding them good bye.
The ceiling fans have been switched off because they are noisy and swinging and I am afraid that a fan might fall. The more I look at it, the more probable it is that it will fall. I am afraid that it may happen. Yes, although it is swinging, it is still giving nice breeze. I hence give it thanks. But I have to be careful not to notice its wobble. Because what I am afraid of, may become a fact. I began with Braille script and ended up with a discussion about fans. We are near the ocean and must enjoy the natural breeze. How long can one feel stuffy? Only people who are accustomed to air conditioning will feel some discomfort. But here there are mostly people from Andhra who are here. They are anyway not accustomed to having air conditioning. They feel no discomfort. One may be concerned about being sweaty and bothering the neighbors. But if your neighbors are also sweaty, then you have nothing to be concerned about. All are equally sweaty. Only if you focus on the discomfort it bothers you. But if you concentrate on Appaji’s words, you will not notice the stuffiness.
You were expecting to hear about Vedanta and the talk has turned to air. That is because we are talking about Hanuman. When we have the real God of Wind with us, why do we need this artificial air? That is why the fans have been turned off. That is nice. Hanuman is always near the ocean. The breeze generated when Hanuman took a leap to cross the ocean, is still spinning around the globe. It will never stop. Through all the eons (Yugas) the breeze continues to blow. It is all over the universe. We can smell Hanuman’s presence here. We must feel that Hanuman is fanning us with his tail. Hence, we do not need this artificial breeze from the fans. Once in a while, we may need it if it is too suffocating. Some say that waves in the ocean create the breeze. I believe that even the waves rise and fall because of Hanuman’s speed when he took off and flew across the ocean. Breeze has always been around since the beginning of creation. Can that original breeze be hidden somewhere and be replaced with some new breeze? Tell me. Is that breeze hidden? That breeze is always there. This breeze that we feel here is the breeze that was touched by Hanuman.
Man has a passion for comforting his sense organs. That is why he depends on fans and air conditioners. But with time people get adjusted. Not all homes have fans or a/c s. In the beginning at Mysore ashrama, there were no comforts. But Europeans got adjusted to staying there, out of love. 200-300 people shared one building with no fans or a/c in the old Rama Sankara Kuteera. They are from cold countries. But they adjusted out of love. In the beginning they found it hard to fall asleep. But from tossing and turning, they would get tired and fall asleep.
You can ask the old devotees of 1960’s and 1970’s. There were lots of mosquitoes also. But out of love and desire for Swamiji’s company, they adjusted. When there is no love, one will find a stone even in yogurt. They shout, “Don’t touch me.” For forty years people love each other and suddenly what happened? Don’t touch me. I don’t want any discussion. I want only divorce. If you love, there are so many old couples who call each other ‘Dear’. That is real love. Divine Love. This quarrel is human love.
You must love heart to heart, not body to body. That is the love that Rama and Sita feel. Rama’s love for Sita is heart to heart love. Hanuman’s love for Rama and Rama’s love for Hanuman is heart to heart love. Sita became very thin when she got abducted by Ravana. Rama was handsome, He was Mr. Mysore. Sita was nothing. But still, Rama loved her. Beauty is not important. It is temporary. Only virtue is important. A very beautiful lady after 40 or 60 years of age, what happens? A good singer, after losing all the teeth cannot even pronounce the lyrics clearly. Why is Swamiji talking about heart to heart love in Rameswaram? It is all Ramayana. All I speak of is about Ramayana. I make it humorous. How Hanuman – Air, brought the mind and intellect together, the mutual love between Rama and Sita and how the son of Wind united them. The sense organs are the forest. Ida and Pingala are the River Ganga. Rama crossed the river and faced many troubles. His mind went astray. The intellect suffered. The Yoga we perform by closing our eyes is the effort of bringing Rama and Sita together. We conquer the six enemies who reside in the forest represented by the sense organs. That is Ramayana. Life, our body, is moving Ramayana. Our sense organs are the forest. Rama is mind. Sita is the intellect. Six enemies are inside. One is Ravana. You sit and pray. Hanuman, as Pranayama helps you. He kills the enemies. This is traveling Ramayana. Our body is the forest. The inner enemies are the demons. You must practice systematically. Then Hanuman helps. It is all Yoga. It is not drama. There is no mention of Rama or Sita in Yoga Sutras. Mind is searching for the Intellect. Rama is searching for Sita. Hanuman comes to help. Agastya, the great sage advised Rama to sit and pray to the Sun God. Vasishtha was Rama’s Guru. Even Rama required a Guru.
As per the scriptures, every organ in our body is represented by a different aspect of God. This body is very sacred and precious. It is a temple. The resident is divine. We must protect him with a strong intellect. The five sense organs are the four brothers etc. This is Adhyatma Ramayana. There is so much meaning. Swamiji remains silent. If He explains, you do not understand. I cannot remain without explaining. At least understand 10 per cent of my explanation. I do not expect fifty per cent.
Many have gone for Teertha holy bath. Those who missed today may go tomorrow. Do it physically at least. Maybe the mind is wandering. The head is most important. Put the water on your head, eyes, nose, ears, lips, hands, feet, and stomach, if you do not get fully wet. You may go to Dhanushkoti. Hanuman and his army are there still, in a subtle form. Be careful when you go there. If you do not go it is good. If you go it is better. If you do nothing, it is best. It is said to be a risky journey. Do as you wish. All I say is correct. Everything is right here. That is also good.
Om Namassivaya.
Sri Rama Jayarama Jaya Jaya Rama.
The bhajan singing by the Chennai group was very nice. They brought out some old forgotten bhajans also. There is a bhajana yogam app. Please download the app and learn the bhajans as it guides you through the lyrics. It is compatible with Android and Nokia. Blackberry is not compatible.
Jaya Guru Datta.
Speech in the evening
Jaya Guru Datta
If anyone is making too much noise, do this right next to them, and it will make them jump in fright, I guarantee it. Daily some persons get startled when you shout your slogans of victory (Jaikaram). It happens every day.
It is very difficult for me to sing. Just now the healing process is occurring. I will not sing like in a concert. I will only sing some simple namavali, a string of divine names. Since we have all had the darshan of Lord Siva, and since just like Lord Vishnu, Siva also appreciates the singing of divine names and abhishekam, we will render this service. A bhajan session is different. For me it will be a struggle to carry it out today. It will not be nice to stop it halfway. Today during the abhishekam to Lord Siva, I could only visualize the Sivaratri of this year at Mysore ashram. We are here at this sacred pilgrimage center where Lord Rama Himself has installed the Siva Lingam. This divine darshan of Lord Siva destroys all our sins and paves the way for us to attain enlightenment.
Siva destroys the sins of all lifetimes, including the sin of murder. We frequently wish to end our life. Even that thought is a sin. It is equivalent to the sin of committing suicide. Life will be lost regardless. Why should we try to hasten it? Suicide is one of the greatest sins. Some people, even for the smallest confusions or troubles, wish to kill themselves. That wish itself is equivalent to killing oneself. Lord Siva is witness to that. Anyway, we have to die someday. Why do you wish to die sooner? Life is a great gift. It should be experienced. Even old age has to be experienced. You should not wish to escape from it. It is another stage in life. It is only when you experience fully all the different stages in life, you will graduate. You do not wish to experience, but keep wishing to die. As many times that you express that thought in words, that many times you are committing that horrible sin. For every small quarrel, you say that you want to die. You are not going to live permanently. You must wait for your turn in the queue. You cannot take a short cut. You will then end up suffering punishments, misery, and insult. If you follow the queue you may take time, but it will be smooth. When you are standing in the queue you face the temptations of bribing to get ahead, quarreling to get ahead, or taking an irregular shorter path to move ahead. All these are great sins. Frequently we take such wrong routes. We should avoid that. We must control our minds. Whenever your turn is due, that is when it is legal and it will make you happy. It is good to be legal. If you take devious routes, it is not correct. Why do you daily wish to die? If you wish, you dye your hair daily, but do not wish to die. Each time you say that you wish to die, it is a great sin you are committing.
Lord Siva destroys such sins. With problems in your daily life, like confusion with business, confusion with family, or confusion with yourself, you begin to wish to end your life. You feel fed up. It is not good. You must fight. You fight with so many people. Why not you fight against yourself? Be quiet and fight. Be calm and fight. It is useless fighting with other people and causing them problems. Always control yourself, not only the sense organs, but all karmas. You must face your life. You must fight the battle of life. What is the use of fighting with others? Their karma is bigger. You have no right to fight with children or with your spouse. You have no right to fight with God or Sadguru also. You fight against your fate. When you feel an itch, you should scratch yourself. What is the use of scratching your neighbor? If you have an infection, you treat yourself. If you trouble your neighbor, he will complain. Why do you give pain to others? You must control your body and your mind. It is your body and your karma, it is your fate. You are responsible for your own karma. Not God. God is always a witness only. He is only looking, like the Sun God. Unknowingly, so many bad feelings, and bad desires you entertain, dirty wishes. So you must suffer yourself. He is only a witness to all elements. That is Siva. He is witnessing all the Bhootaganas, we are all such energies. We act according to our own fate. Our journey is very long. We follow our own mistakes and merits, papa and punya. You are alone. You are not a partner with your spouse or Guru. Guru is also only a witness. Sometimes, if He wants, He gives guidance. Otherwise, He does not. Siva is the witness to all. All that I am saying is Siva Purana.
Yesterday, I gave a question to people. Why Anjaneya was sent to go far away. Are you thinking about it? Have you left it in the air, or left it to Siva or Rama? Many have given their written answers. Anyway, today we have had darshan of Lord Siva. He loves abhishekam. That is why He has kept Ganga on His head. If He simply opens the faucet, the water will flow. We also have Ganga on our heads in winter. We keep sneezing. That is how it is.
I cannot sing many bhajans. I can speak a little. I cannot sing all the notes. I will get you started and you please continue. The musicians will sing the stories of Siva. Just like Bhagavatam gives the stories of Vishnu, Siva Purana gives the stories of Siva. Swamiji has sung a bhajan which contains all the important stories of Lord Siva. In 5-6 stanzas, the entire essence of Siva Purana is conveyed.
Bhajan: Goppalugaa nee kathalu vaare vaa vaa ..
Your stories are wondrous, O Lord Siva. We will make a huge heap of all of them.
Can anyone count all the grains of sand on a sea shore? Can one count all the stars in the sky?
To express surprise, there are no words. Once you put it in words, it gets limited. You merely say, ah, oh, vaarevaa!
When you see the fully decorated deity, you feel so overwhelmed, you become speechless. You only make incoherent sounds. That is how it should be. If you try to give an explanation, it gets limited.
You see a mountain in spring time. The water is flowing. The sun is rising. The birds are chirping joyfully. The flowers are extremely fragrant. Even a poet cannot describe its beauty. All you can say is aah, and ooh. If you try to describe it in specific words, it means that you have not fully enjoyed the scenery. Sometimes when Swamiji is asked to tell a story, He feels that He cannot do justice, and feels that it is better to simply remain silent. Many people just give up and stay quiet. The experience with Guru is like that. Many people say that you should write a book with all the experiences. It is good to document it, but where to begin and where to end it? It is best to say aah, and ooh because you cannot do justice to the topic in words.
In this song, when we say we will pile up all the stories, it means that Lord Siva’s glories are countless and we simply cannot enumerate them.
This is a folk song where villagers sing the glories of Lord Siva as they dance with the sticks, the Kolattam dance.
1. As you were going through the garden of Daruka, what did you do? Instead of simply going your way, you suddenly transformed yourself into a Siva Lingam. All the millions of ancient sages who were performing penance there, who were only deeply absorbed in the meditation of Omkara until then, saw Lord Siva traveling by, and felt very happy to see your blissful form. When you suddenly left your form as Siva and turned into a Siva Lingam, they became very puzzled and troubled. Instantly their hearts were filled with many doubts and questions. Their peaceful penance got disturbed. Why did you do this? They were simply minding their business quietly. Why did you have to intrude into their holy forest, and why did you have to make them notice your divine presence, and your sudden transformation? Who are you? Are you Krishna, Rama, or Siva?
Every stanza ends with a question mark. Siva has given so much work for our intellect.
2. Parvati performed penance to attain you a second time. You were also seated in penance to unite with her. Subrahmanya had to be born to kill Tarakasura, the demon. The marriage between Siva and Parvati had to take place for Subrahmanya to be born. Mother Goddess was determined to obtain you. You were also keen on marrying her. But you would not open your eyes. Suddenly the God of Love, Manmatha was sent there by Indra and other celestials. He had to disturb your penance and make you marry Parvati. Manmatha became proud that Indra, the king of the celestials himself had dispatched him to fulfill this important task. The concept was good. He had to make Siva fall in love with Parvati. But, in the process, Manmatha got burnt to ashes by you, who got angry at the disturbance caused by Manmatha. Rati, Manmatha’s wife was innocent and became bereaved of her husband for no fault of hers. She kept wailing in sorrow. Why did you do that, O Lord Siva? Your play is indeed inexplicable.
3. The story continues. Siva remained angry for a long time and the intended marriage with Parvati did not take place. Parvati got frightened at witnessing Siva’s fury and ran away. But Parvati persevered in her determination to marry you, by the inspiration given by all the celestials. She started performing penance again. You, disguised as an aged bachelor, chased after her and troubled her with a lot of questions, and finally grabbed her hand. Why? Earlier, you burned Manmatha in rage. At that time, Parvati was waiting to marry you. Now, you took the trouble of going after Parvati yourself. Why?
4. The marriage took place. You set up home at Kailasa on earth, a golden mountain of silvery snow. This is the second drama you played. You remained there and were going around with a begging bowl. You owned a Rolls Royce car and went begging for petrol (gasoline). You live in a house built of silver and gold. But you are a beggar begging for a living with a skull for a begging bowl. I simply cannot understand your situation, O Lord Siva.
Many people, who receive a thousand rupees as remuneration, are not satisfied and wait eagerly to be given some extra small change. Some, after eating a sumptuous meal, lick the remnant of food that is stuck on a strand of hair. Perhaps they recollect their past life as a dog.
You grant great boons to others, but for your needs, you go begging.
5. You killed Gajasura, the demon, and then entered into the elephant’s body to revive it. Then you chopped off its head to place it on top of your son’s body to make him Gajanana. You are the Creator. You made Parvati create a small boy. Then you cut off his head and made her cry. You caused trouble to Lord Vishnu. You go in a roundabout manner in doing things. Why?
6. The Tripurasura, the three demons are your children. They had to be all on one side before they could be killed. Why did you have to create such a stipulations to make everything so hard for yourself? To make them come together, you struggled. Finally, you opened your third eye and burnt them. Why did you have to give them such boons to make them so powerful in the first place? Why did you have to wait for so long to bring them all together? Why couldn’t you kill them at the very outset?
7. During the yajna performed by Daksha, he became arrogant and you destroyed him. Fine. His daughter Sati fell into the fire and killed herself unable to bear the insults hurled at her husband by her father. She was your wife, and for her you again performed penance. You could have set right the mind of Daksha to begin with. Or, you could have set right your own wife’s mind when she refused to listen to you when you told her not to go to her father’s house. O Siva, why did you have to complicate things so much?
8. It is true that I do not understand your ways, O Lord Siva. Your story is very confusing. I have no quarrel with you. Out of love, I asked why you go through so much trouble. I go crazy even reading and recollecting your stories. You have given me the name of Rama for chanting. I will keep chanting it. Regardless of all my frustration, you are my Siva. You are my Guru. I only asked the above questions out of concern about you. I have no doubts about you. Please forgive me O Lord Siva for asking all these questions. I am very happy for one thing. We are good friends. You chant the name of Rama always. You have disclosed the ultimate secret to your wife about the name of Rama and its immense power.
Here, at Rameswaram, let us all chant the name of Rama and fulfill the purpose of our lives. Let us conclude this evening’s session by chanting the name of Rama.
Sri Rama Jaya Rama Jaya Jaya Rama
Sri Guru Datta
