This is the sacred Datta Padukas Mukti Kshetram. The first Ganga to appear on earth to remove sins is River Godavari. This river is a Jnana giver which destroys seven lives’ sins. Beasts, men, sages or rishis, and the celestials revere this river. All are happy at Pushkara time, which comes only once in twelve years, which is very holy and powerful. All the 333 crores of devatas will be present in this river during this time. They spread their energy in the waters during the whole year. All germs and sins get destroyed. Ancestors will have peace if one takes a holy dip during that time. The central portion or the navel of Godavari is at Rajahmundry. Brahma blesses those who bathe here. Brahma emerged from the navel of Lord Narayana.
With most devotion and faith one must bathe or dip three times in the sacred waters of the river. Use of soap is not permitted. Bathe at home, come clean and fresh, and then take a dip. Do not wash clothes in the river waters at the bathing ghats. Do not make the water dirty. Sage Gautama and the Cow – the story you have heard. Remember. Prokshana with the waters (sprinkling on the head) is enough. Tomorrow at 6:26 am the auspicious muhurtam of the commencement of Pushkara occurs. It is not necessary that you should take a dip only at that time; anytime in the following year if you dip three times, it is fine.
All SGS ashramas are waiting for Swamiji’s visit and holy touch. Like lottery, some get the luck. Tomorrow Swamiji leaves for USA temple inauguration. 40 times minimum daily you should do Hanuman chaleesa chanting.
I brought with me Lord Hanuman’s statue which was held by me on my head during the holy bath in river Godavari yesterday evening. Hanuman gives Bala/strength, buddhi/sharp intellect, good health, long life, spiritual knowledge, and courage. Yes. He also takes bath tomorrow here at the commencement of Pushkara. Last night’s kantha snana/bath from neck downwards was for the conclusion of the previous year.
900 crores Hanuman Chalisa chantings have to be completed soon. Already over 400 crores have been completed worldwide.
Teertha snana is not soap bath. Scriptures praise river Godavari as the holy river which came to the earth before Ganga. Godavari came because of the power of penance of Sage Gautama. Only a human king Bhageeratha was responsible for bringing Ganga to the earth.
Godavari does whatever needs to be done. She blesses and she punishes. She gives good things. She takes away bad qualities and sins. She blesses the virtuous. She punishes the wicked. Thirst she quenches. Harvests she produces. Floods she uses to submerge and cleanse.
This city is beautifully decorated. Special buses and trains have been arranged. Much eagerness is there. The glory of Godavari is explained. We are very lucky. Mother Godavari gives good energy.
Much progress has been made at this ashrama. The new addition of the first floor is nicely done. More needs to be done. During Swamiji’s time, complete the progress, the additional construction. If you do it quickly, Swamiji will spend seven days here and will do a Saptaha/seven day discourse.
Evening also there will be darshan. May be. I pray that God should protect us at this Datta Paduka Mukti Kshetram. Swamiji’s visit now is a miracle. Godavari pushkara is a very great event.
Tomorrow much discipline is required. Once Swamiji touches the water it is purified. No need to see the sun only at sunrise. All day he is visible. The water will remain pure all year long. There is no need to rush in and crowd around Swamiji to be in the water at the same time. After Swamiji steps out, if you enter the waters, you will be doubly blessed. I leave for you the blessed waters.

Yesterday four parrots at Mysore ashrama sang Jaya Hanuman Jnanaguna Sagara. All four were students learning to sing that line. All can sing. We held a contest before the video camera to choose the best singer in Swamiji’s tune. One parrot would be busy with me most of the time, sitting on my shoulder during interviews. He missed many classes. The teacher would ask why he is absent from class. Then said, okay, Swamiji will teach him. Held a contest yesterday to see if the parrots can sing in tune. Many devotees cannot hold the tune properly.
The parrots were distracted. My boy (parrot) who rarely attended classes, this one who is always naughty, he was brought also for the test recording. Swamiji prayed to Hanuman, please make him sing for the Youtube video. The teacher was not there. The other parrots did not sing. Varam is the name of this mischievous parrot. It is the name of a raga. Gives boons, is the meaning of that word. He not only gives boons, he removes desires. Such a one is Varam. Got a bad name from the teacher as a frequent absentee. Last chance he got to prove himself. “Om Namo Narayana Datta” – Varam sang. He says “Jaya Guru Datta, How are you? I love you, Happy Birthday Appaji, Good Morning, Good Bye,” and many other words. No bad words. He will repeat whatever he hears.
Once, when Swamiji was on tour, one of the caretakers of the parrots, Chinmayi, scolded the parrot and called him, “Koti”, which means ‘monkey’. When Swamiji returned to Mysore, Varam repeated the word. “Appaji chinmayi koti” – it kept saying. I inquired why it kept saying it. The boy confessed that he called it by that name when he scolded it. It told tales on him to me.
Many people sing the Hanuman Chalisa for the recording to be placed on a satellite to orbit in space for eons. We need a total of 100,000 proper recordings. Many people do not follow the tune. They change the tune. They sing as they like. Although many people have recorded the percentage of approved recordings is very low.
It is so hot here that raw rice will get cooked just by the heat of the sun.
Only 1200 approved recordings we got so far. Learn from the CD to be in the group whose voices will be placed on the satellite through eternity. Half of Datta devotees have failed. Some Christian kids are singing nicely and correctly. Hindus are getting less success. I want cent per cent success. Sing the first few lines the same way as Swamiji and then the rest will be fine. One grain will tell, when you test it, whether the rice is done or not. If you squeeze each grain to test, it will spoil the rice. You cannot eat it. Hoped for 1000 recordings from Rajahmundry. They do the recordings, but how many get approved? It is like the IAS exams. Teach every one. Give free CDs. Hanuman Loka you can see, if you successfully participate. It is a big plan. Do it quickly. Everyone should learn. We need 900 crores count also. Go to every home, every village. Beg them to learn properly and sing for the recording. 5000 approved recordings I need from Hyderabad. Otherwise I do not come there. I will go to Vijayawada if they are successful with a huge count of successful recordings. My wish is also to popularize the Hanuman Chalisa all over the globe, with as many people as possible chanting it for the protection of the world.
Hira amma taught four parrot students for one hour daily. Varam got first prize. Kutti sings ‘Jaya Hanuman Jnanaguna Sagara’, but she is shy in front of the camera.
1000 rupees to 10 Lakh (one million) rupees you may give for building the second floor here with a big hall and some guest rooms for people who visit here to make offerings to the forefathers. Get receipts.
Ancestral spirits are offered prayers, food and water. Like in Gaya, or Pithapuram, which is famous as Pada Gaya. Rajahmundry is as sacred a place. Also at the banks of river Godavari. Yajna Dattatreya Swami is consecrated here, along with a precious crystal Sivalingam. At Datta Mukti Kshetram, especially to do the offerings during the Pushkara time is very effective. Do it in the swing, the charity also. Pledge now to give for the construction of the rooms. You may give enough for one room and have the name of the donor or any specific name inscribed there.
Give and forget. Do not drop some water into the ocean and then search for it again. Once you give, you forget about it.
Get Pushkara stamps released just now by Swamiji with some parrot pictures also. Available only for 12 days. Collection items. Later they will be worth Lakhs of rupees.
Early tomorrow morning, take a bath. Clean yourselves. Then take a dip. No need to fast. 6:26 am and then 7:22 am. See Sadguru take bath. That is more auspicious than getting in the water with Him. Mother Godavari will remain very pure and sacred. Do not crowd. Just watch. Such people get more spiritual merit. After Swamiji completes His dips, you do it. That is better. Be disciplined. Teach others a lesson. Before 7:22 you may go. Do not worry about almanacs. Swamiji Himself is the almanac. I follow my will. I may be in dhyana at a certain time and may delay the sacred bath. It does not matter. Whenever Swamiji does, that is the auspicious time. He decides the almanac. I did up to the neck bath today for a good reason. Do not keep doubts. Faith in God. Follow the master. Face the devil. Finish the game. Fulfill this life. No gossip. No bad words. Do not spoil the mind. Avoid. Devotion you should establish. Guru is Vishnu. Hanuman you believe in. Water or milk. Either one is fine. Heaven or anywhere He takes me, it is fine. Such should be your faith. Keep a pure mind when you bathe. Do not have questions or doubts in your mind. Ganga at Sivaratri. Swamiji bathed and many of you watched.
You know the famous story.
Once Parvati asked Siva, So many people bathe in the Ganga to get rid of their sins. If they all were to come to Kailasa, where is the room to accommodate them all here?
Siva said, there is no need to worry. I will show you why. They go to Kasi to the banks of the Ganga disguised as an old couple. They play a drama as per Siva’s direction.
Parvati, as an old woman, wailed, “Please, someone save my husband. One who is free from sin should pour some Ganga water in his mouth to make him live. He is lying here dying. But if you are not free from sin, and you give him water, he will die at once.
Not a soul offered to save the old man’s life. Everyone had taken a dip in the river, but they all doubted their own purity even after the purifying bath in the sacred waters. They did not wish to take the risk of being the cause of the old man’s death. They all ignored her and walked away.
Parvati was astonished at their lack of faith in themselves and in the purifying nature of Ganga.
Finally, a remorseful thief, who had had enough of leading a sinful life, decided to wash off his sins in Ganga. He heard the old woman’s pitiful plea. He at once plunged into the water to cleanse himself of all his sins. The thief had his hands cut off for stealing, and so could not bring water with his palms. He was naked and had nothing with him. He filled his mouth with Ganga water and put water from his mouth into Siva’s mouth. The old man who lay dying till them, at once recovered. Parvati understood that only one in a million has true faith and devotion. Others did crores of times Japa, gave lots in charity, and went on numerous pilgrimages. But still they had no faith.
Many of you will boast that you went with Swamiji and bathed in Godavari. Sins will be gone, no doubt. Be careful from then on. Keep getting better. Do not begin accruing fresh sins. You must learn to see God in every one. Use all opportunities to serve God, and to do good deeds only.
We leave this body. TV. Sofa. All these do not go with you. A fellow as he was dying, cried that he did not want to die leaving all his possessions. You get cremated elsewhere, not in the house you love. Ugly cadaver after death. After Sat and Chit leave. Nothing. This body is only a rented house. Do good deeds. God gave you this body. Not yours. He gives, He takes. Give your heart to God. Give a chance to those who wish to give for charity. The wealthy build a temple. The poor worship there. That is service. Never be jealous. Don’t make deals with God. If I get a Lottery win, I will give half. What foolishness! Guru takes our sins. Not our money. He steals the dirt that is in your heart. Wash silk clothes. With kisses will the dirt go? No. scrub with tamarind paste to make the border shine.
