Now during the panel discussion no one should get up and leave. It is a very important subject.
Today it is Children’s Day. It is good that the World Diabetes Day coincides with it. Children’s health must be safeguarded from their younger days. They should be well informed.
Diabetes does not kill. It teaches discipline. It teaches one to eat Satvic food and exercise daily. If a proper lifestyle is adopted, one with Diabetes can live up to 100 years with a happy family. One centenarian I met yesterday. He holds a walking stick. Even today he can eat 10 chirotis. If you talk to him you will learn about his discipline. He eats only one meal a day. He walks a lot. He conserves his energy. He is balanced in his emotions, eating habits, sleeping, and recreation.
Speak less, eat less, and travel less. Nourish your life energy. Then the organs in the body will be protected.
I met a 60 years old. He has diabetes. But not everyone in his family has inherited diabetes. It is not necessarily hereditary. It depends on the person’s habits and stress levels. A blood test reveals the presence of excess blood sugar. Eating canned food, non-vegetarian food, and contaminated food is harmful. One has to read the ingredients listed on the packages and use caution in consuming foods. Before purchasing, you must read what the can or package contains. The list is sometimes not accurate. It might be misleading.
You go to the doctor. You take the pills regularly. You go again and find that your diabetes is now under control. Sometimes the medicine is not needed further. But lifestyle improvements must continue. One should not relax. Then the disease returns. Then insulin has to be administered.
Realize this. First the professional doctor helps. Who is the second doctor? One must doctor one’s own body. If you maintain your own diet and exercise levels, you will stay healthy. Doctor gives remedy and recommends lifestyle changes. Both are equally important. Immediate reduction in sugar levels is achieved by the medicines. Some doctors frighten the patients. It is wrong. The patients then begin to worry. They get other medical problems because of their anxiety.
Doctors must not frighten patients who trust their physicians. Patients can obtain inexpensive medicines. They should be informed. Only in eight days some people improve the health.
Some spend excessively for Ekadasi fast purchasing more fruits, nuts, and special snacks. Except for rice, all other items are consumed. That is neither good nor necessary. Only once a month or twice you do fasting for health reasons.
While eating, stop while you are still not completely full. Why? When we earn well, why not eat a bellyful? If you wish to live long, you should stop eating before you are completely full. Because food is tasty, if you eat too much, it is bad. It spoils your health. Distribute and share the treats with others, whatever are your favorite items. It makes others happy. You stay healthy. Follow these simple rules.
In California, we went to a China Market. A big store was there. Sony it was called. Lots of Television sets were there, very inexpensive. My companion said, these will not work once you take them home. I went near a television. One was cheap and the other was expensive. Both were identical. One had no remote. The other had a remote. The less expensive one was for diabetics, it said. I wanted to take the less expensive one. Large screen television. You sit 15 feet away. It has more channels than the other. This had two years warranty. The other had only one year warranty. I was puzzled at the price difference.
Because there was no remote, you have to get up and change the channels. Between advertisements, you go back and forth several times. He advertised boldly that it is for diabetics.
India should get such televisions. They are also inexpensive.
In small ways we can make a difference. One woman was walking 40 km. daily. Kitchen was far, store room, well for water, dining room, were all far, because it was a spacious old type home. She lived for a hundred years.
Along with control of diet, we must also exercise.
Ramdas is actively serving the community despite not holding a positon. He helps the disadvantaged. This camp must be fully utilized by all. Today’s lunch is also specially prepared for diabetics. It is also tasty.
I wish success to this program.
