Everyone close your eyes and sit in meditation. Now open your eyes and see everything. How many Telugu devotees here and how many Kannada devotees? About equal.
In the Bhagavatam Sri Krishna is described. He is incomparable. He is invisible. We cannot see him anywhere in Kali Yuga. God does not present Himself visibly in Kali Yuga. God is always invisible. Only in Dwapara Yuga, he made Himself visible only for the Gopikas, the residents of Vraja, He made Himself visible, as a brother to one, as a friend to one, as a child to one, or as a relative. These devotees were pure-hearted. God cannot be perceived by the sense organs. Only the Vraja residents could see Him. They had descended from Vaikuntha. There were in His presence before.
Sri Jayalakshmi Mata composed a beautiful bhajan and sang it. It compares Gokula to Vaikuntha. Krishna appeared in Gokula. He is Pure Consciousness. He is unequaled. He is in a blissful state ever. He cannot be comprehended by the mind or the sense organs. He cannot be grasped by words. He is indescribable. Only those with a pure heart can fathom Him. In Kali Yuga, everyone is corrupted. Even if we do not speak ill, we hear bad words. We are born in corrupted families with blemished hearts and wavering minds. Only in Dwapara Yuga and Treta Yuga pure-hearted souls lived. In Kali Yuga Dharma is non-existent. At least go on a pilgrimage to visit Nanda Gokula. Krishna walked in that region. Let us wear the dust of the region on our heads. The people who live there now are all cruel and wicked because this is Kali Yuga. That city of Mathura was so beautiful then, during Krishna’s time. The ponds, trees, cows, even mosquitoes, pigs, donkeys and birds were pure-hearted then. In Kali Yuga, even birds and beasts are impure. They try to deceive. People are like that, even if it is done unknowingly, sin is still sin, whether done knowingly or unknowingly. No one has loyalty, respect, or reverence. Only rebellion. It is global deception. All lies everywhere. All cheating. We are somehow surviving here.
This situation did not exist then. The people of Vraja had such noble hearts. They worked so hard to please Krishna. Now people do a small favor to Swamiji and expect great recognition and reward. They demand praise. They want their names mentioned. Even those who eat here, eat my salt, behave like that. What bad minds we have. We want returns for every small favor. To fill the water tank, I had to repeatedly beg Sharma. For a small service, I have to ask so many times. People must feel that it is their work, their responsibility, without even being told.
Krishna was like a son to some. To some, he was a loyal relative. To them He made Himself visible. Now we do not even see God’s pictures properly. Sharma could not walk or talk. I gave him mobility. Does he not owe me some loyalty? How will he gain devotion? How will he rise higher? Not one single individual is here who is humble and grateful. Every single person has some fault, all are arrogant. Some are lazy, some are vain and conceited. Some ask why they should be the ones to do the work. I work on them, I scold them. I don’t leave them alone. But they don’t care. They do not give respect to my words. They have no shame. They say, it is only Swamiji who is scolding. Why bother? Just ignore his comments, they say. They just tune out and disregard my words. After bhajan, everyone gets up, turns their back to me, dust off all my words as they dust their clothes in the back, and leave.
Bhagavatam has this sloka. Mathura was not like this. It clearly described the wickedness of people of Kali Yuga. Vyasa wrote this. I just gave my commentary. I might have added a few words, like people being dented, not being straight.
Swamiji’s eyes fill with tears. Any work of Swamiji’s must inspire enthusiasm. People complain of pains and aches. You cannot eat. So, you pump in through tubes. When fever comes, you want porridge. Doing service to Swamiji is LIFE!!!. There is work in the ashrama. It needs to get done. We must jump in and do it. This should be the attitude. Here, people say, O they will hire someone for the job. We must adopt the attitude of being eager to serve without a second thought. You must just crave to serve.
Sloka: Gopalam Prabhu leela vigraha
What happened in the city of Mathura? How was Sri Hari in Dwapara Yuga? People had crystal clear hearts. He made Himself visible to them. How that child Gopala played in the hearts of the people! He showed no distinction. He played joyously in the hearts of all the pure-hearted ones in the city of Mathura.
Bhajan: Mathura nagaravu bhoo vaikunthavu
People do not know what festivities are coming up in the ashrama. People do not attend functions. What are they doing? Watching chickens. Now they are going to tell us about some special upcoming festivals.
