Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji – December 23, 2018 – Mysore
Compiled by Chandra Sekhar Chaganti
The purpose of upadesham is self realisation. We come closer to God and Guru as we do more chanting of mantra. Our ajnana (ignorance) goes away. Paramātma is also doing the karma. If God stops karma, then the entire world will vanish. Removing karma is also the philosophy of God.
The entire humanity is filled with desire. Desires cause ajnana.
With ajnana we commit more sins.
Because of sins we fall into hell.
That is why we must take guru’s upadēsha.
It is difficult to get guru in the first place. Many people lose their Guru in the one moment. Guru is hard to get, but easy to lose.
Mercury slips away very quickly (it’s just like that). The mercy of Sadguru also vanishes very quickly just like mercury dropped in sand. We must not have wavering mind. Anyone is doubting Sadguru or bad thoughts entering the mind means, they have not born to a real mother. They are monstrous tendencies.
If wavering enters the mind, we must be silent but not give more energy to that thought. If we spit on sun, the spit will fall back on our face itself. Similarly if we slander Sadguru it goes on yourself.
In neetishataka, there is a story. A Sadguru has few disciples. One person is not good looking, and gets heckled by many kids. The Guru with his disciples starts on a trip. After going for a while, they had to cross a river. They get on a boat.
A group of hecklers also get on another boat and follow. They keep pelting stones and making fun. Boat is moving along and the following boat of hecklers also is going. In the middle of the river, the boat carrying hecklers boat has a problem and gets water in it and it is about to sink. The ugly looking disciple laughs, thinking that they deserved what they get. The Guru finds it out that the disciple is laughing about avenging the bad deeds. But guru chides the disciple, with a slap on the cheek but doesn’t explain why he did it. The disciple asks, “why did you slap me? They heckled at me and hit me with stones, you didn’t do anything to them. But now you have slapped me. Guru replies, they did all bad deeds and you didn’t react, so their bad karma is with them. You are following me in my boat. Their boat is sinking, and you laughed. You should have responded when they heckled you, but you didn’t. I was happy that you didn’t. Now you are laughing at their misery, which means you are taking their bad karma. You could have kept quiet now. Reacting when they did a bad deed would have been okay. But when they are suffering now, you are laughing. This means you are taking all their bad karma. There is so much meaning in this story.
There is a story of buddha also.
When someone is scolding, buddha keeps just walking completely ignoring them. Someone asks buddha, he says, I am not accepting their abuse, so it will remain with them. If I respond, it means I have accepted it. Let them keep their bad karma. From this, what we learn is, if we need to remove our bad karma and wavering mind and ego, we must practice every day. In some situations, we keep hearing a lot of bad things, though our senses, we get exposed. These are all dangerous. Hearing, smelling, seeing, touching and tasting – all of our senses are constantly doing. We are slaves to our senses. Karma keeps increasing as we follow senses. That is why our mind wavers more. We must teach our senses the good things we are experiencing with mind. Senses keep feeding bad things, that is their work. Our mind and our soul keeps its goal towards reaching paramatma, the Supreme being.
In the first story, the Guru says, when you didn’t fall for your senses, I was happy.
I will give you a secret….read gurugita and understand the meaning. This is the first lesson.
Second one is Bhagavadgita. If you do both of these, you become good Datta devotees.
Keep doing your karma. That is your duty. Take care of your kids. That has become your duty since you have opted to take a householder’s life. Fullfill your duty. Take care of yourself but keep Guru safely in your heart. Guru is your jeevabrahma. Believe in Guru. Keep track of your senses carefully (keep them in control). Believing in me, trusting me and with affection – you must not ruin yourself. I will not have denigration. I have always been at the state that’s finally attainable. I am not really mad to give everyone salvation. I neither have given any guarantee nor it is my responsibility. I will leave everyone at a single moment. But you have taken me as the Guru, so you can’t leave. If you have wavering mind, it is like you don’t trust your own mother or wife.
I must not use any other bad language.
Mistrusting guru or disobeying is equivalent to having a bad birth like a lowly animal. This is a warning. Since I know where that will lead you – all hellish consequences (Raurava Naraka).
Don’t look back. Go forward. Trust yourself. Keep senses and mind clean. Protect the knowledge you have. We will meet in another birth. There is no bond. You are someone, I am someone. Through mercy I have taken you closer. Just like mother’s milk nourishes the baby, I have fed you. You must not misuse the opportunity. Don’t kick the breast that is feeding you.
Don’t do any service if you have the wavering mind. Just go wherever your karma will take you. Theres no loss for you or for me.
If you are here, read gurugita and Bhagavadgita for more firm moral support. Love your Guru like you love your own mother.
This is not a game. You may scold God but not Guru. Remember this. Just like you may scold father but not mother. God is like father and Guru is like mother. You must never have wavering faith.
Just stay silent and retire for few years (from me). Don’t mistake. Don’t get bad effects of it. Don’t get blind.
May you all get Good things.
