Speech of HH Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji about Lord Subrahmanya – Mysore – May 2, 2013
Jaya Guru Datta
There are 3 types of kshetras (spiritual centres)- manava kshetras, Siddha kshetras and Deva kshetras.
Manava kshetras are the temples that are constructed by ordinary humans either to fulfill some promise made to God or out of their own inclination and desire. God resides even within these temples and such temples too gradually gain popularity. They too are sacred and there is no need to look down upon them.
Siddha kshetras are those temples that have been consecrated by great sages, mahatmas, yogis or Sagdurus. For all of us, Mysore ashram is the primary Siddha Kshetra. This sacred siddha kshetra had its humble beginnings in 1966.
Deva kshetras are those holy and sacred temples where the deity emerged by itself (svayambhu). Temples of Tirupati, Kanipakam, the ashtadasha shakti peethams (18 primary temples of the divine mother) and such other temples come under this category.
The same amount of power and energy that exists within Deva Kshetras, also exists within the siddha kshetras that have been consecrated by saints and Sadgurus.
A little time after the consecration of Datta Venkateshwara temple at ashram, our Sadguru Appaji consecrated Marakata Subrahmanya within the same temple complex. At the time of Kumbhabhishekam, standing atop the temple, Appaji made a specific announcement that within this temple, Lord Subrahmanya actually/ personally resides (pratyaksha). At that time, no one believed Him. There was no proof to this statement either.
Yesterday, to prove His words, an unusual incident took place at that temple. This was witnessed by most of the temple staff, Kalyan and others.
Behind the Subrahmanya temple, there is a nagara katta (a platform that contains many idols of snakes made of stone). How a snake could emerge from there, no one knows. But this snake that emerged, quickly performed a pradakshina (circumambulation) around the entire Subrahmanya temple and having returned back to the nagara katta, disappeared mysteriously!
Yesterday was Shasti (the sixth day of the lunar fortnight), a day very dear to Lord Subrahmanya. This physically manifests (pratyaksha roopa) in the form of a snake. Hence we should understand that He came personally.
Hence stars such as Ashlesha etc are selected for appeasing him. To get rid of sarpa dosha (curse of the serpents), one should mandatorily worship Subrahmanya.
Every person living on earth suffers from sarpa dosha. The percentage of the dosha may vary from person to person. Some could have 70%, some others 90% and few others may have as little as .01%. Nevertheless, the root point here is that everyone has some degree of this dosha.
This earth belongs to the snakes. We are constructing houses and living in it while on earth. During the process of constructions, many snakes get killed. For having occupied their land, we are inflicted with this dosha. Hence it is mandatory for every being to worship Lord Subrahmanya in order to get relieved from this dosha.
Yesterday, through this appearance, Subrahmanya made it clear that He is actually present in that temple. All of you visit the temple and obtain the blessings of that Lord. Please learn to recite the Subrahmanya Bhujanga Stotra.
Jaya guru Datta.
