Speech of HH Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji to understand and utilise the Surya Grahana or Solar eclipse period to achieve positive benefits – December 19, 2019 – Bangalore
We often hear of Snakes eating Sun and Moon in Historical legends and we question the origin or authenticity of these stories. Wether the snake is real or some interpretative character is not important! What matters is the Eclipse is real and we should do everything possible to follow correct instructions and achieve positive benefits. The stories are not significant at this time! The Sun God is very mighty and powerful and full description of his size and distance are given in the Hanuman Chaalisa. Without knowing the facts one should not ignore what has been told by our Great Sages.
Our Pujya Sri Appaji gives a Datta Kankana for us to wear for our benefit and protection. We do not question the material it is made from or what benefit it gives. We wear with full faith and belief. Some may say it is blind faith and belief! But in actual fact it is Purna or complete belief! Just follow instructions given by Sri Appaji.
The eclipse will be present in various places throughout India. During the time of the eclipse one should not cook at home or even go to resturants for food! Do not try to watch it directly as it may harm the eyes. It begins at 8:06 Am on December 26th and ends at 11:09AM. During this period no food should be consumed as no undigested food should be in the stomach during this time! For elderly or those on medication try to consume something as before as possible to the starting time of the Grahana. During this period some Raashis maybe effected. Please check with pandits to determine the effects according to your raashi. However it is not something to worry about but a time for praying! Anusthanam should be done during this period. Those who should not come out during the Grahana should stay inside and pray for this full period. Try to read BhagwadGita or Sundara kaanda and listen to Kavacha Manjari. Utilise this most auspicious time in spiritual sadhana.
